Deborah Peters Obituary

Deborah G. Peters

August 22, 1950 - August 15, 2025

Deborah G. Peters, 74, of Galloway Township, N.J. passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2025, with her family by her side. Born in Newark, N.J., Debbie settled in Galloway where she lived for almost 40 years. Debbie loved the beach where you would find her and her loving husband, Michael, sitting and watching the waves together. Debbie loved animals and enjoyed bird watching. She was able to see a Roseate Spoonbill, a species of bird that is never in New Jersey, at the Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge (as Debbie affectionately called "Bird Land") the week prior to her passing. Debbie was active within The Beacon Evangelical Free Church and a presence at the Galloway senior center where she would play bingo and Mahjong and help other seniors. Predeceased by her parents Florence and John Celeste, Debbie leaves behind her devoted husband, Michael Steinmetz; her sons James Peters (Lori), and Tyler Springel, her daughter Jennifer Fletcher (Matthew); her grandchildren TJ, Josie and Luke; her brother Dennis Celeste; and her former husband Alan Springel with whom she shared many meaningful years raising Tyler. The family will honor Debbie's life in a private service. They appreciate your thoughts and prayers during this time. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Debbie's name to The Beacon Evangelical Free Church, Attention: Building Fund, 420 6th Avenue, Galloway, N.J. 08205. Earlier today

Debbie was my second Mom. I called her Mom2. I lost my mom Carlene unexpectedly in 1993 when I was just 25 years old. Debbie & I met at Children's Seashore House in Atlantic City in 1993. We took our sons Tyler & Brandon there to be evaluated for developmental delays. I sat down next to her & we started a conversation & well, the rest is history. We've remained close friends ever since that day. Debbie had always been there for me & my family. When my twins were born in 2007 Debbie babysat them a few times to give my husband Carlton & I a break so we could enjoy an evening out. She & her husband Michael even helped my daughter Kirsten make party favors for her wedding in 2023. My kids called her Aunt Debbie. She was truly a part of our family & she will be forever missed. We LOVE you Debbie always & forever. I thank God every day for bringing Debbie into my life. Rest easy sweet friend.
