Debra-Jean "Debbie" Bernadette Kenui, 61, of Hilo, Hawaii, peacefully passed away at home on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 in Hilo, Hawaii. She was born on March 30, 1964 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Debbie was an administrative secretary for the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and a Waiakea High School graduate class of 1982.

She was also a former legal secretary for Kobayashi, Watanabe, Ing, Kawashima & Goda; project administrator for Academia Sinica; sales representative for Geoffrey Beane Outlet Store; counterperson for Dairy Queen; and student secretary for U.H.-Hilo Student Services.

Volunteer works:

-Active board member for Hui Malama Ola Na O'iwi Cancer Support Group, Malama Ka Pili Pa'a

-Member and greeter for New Hope Christian Fellowship - Hilo

-Volunteer for American Cancer Society programs and services: Reach to Recovery; Making Strides Against Breast Cancer; and Hope Lodge Hawaii

-A certified cancer patient navigator

-Organizer / Team Mom for various baseball and volleyball organizations

-Volunteer for Hawaii Pacific Oncology Center

-Recipient / Speaker for: Relay for Life "Ms. Relay"; Lady Footlocker "I Can" Campaign; Portraits of Hope; and KBIG FM Breast Cancer Awareness Events

-Volunteer for Convoy of Hope Breast Cancer Resource Tent

-Volunteer and Advocate in cancer community

-Volunteer for Hawaii Care Choices

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday (Nov. 20, 2025) at New Hope Christian Fellowship – Hilo; Visitation at 9 a.m. and Service at 10 a.m.

Casual aloha attire welcomed.

Debbie is survived by her, husband, Milton H. Kenui Sr., sons, Milton Kenui Jr., Michael (Maile) Kenui, Marcus Kenui; 2 granddaughters; mother, Patrica L. Silva of Hilo; sisters, Cheryl (Mike) Dias of Hilo, Brenda (Clayton) Kenui of Hilo and Anne (Thomas) Sweeny of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; brother, Darren (Lehua) Silva of Maui; numerous nieces, nephews and loved ones. Debbie's legacy lives on in all of them.
