Debra Ann (Lackey) Wakefield, better known as Debbie, passed away at home on Friday, January 24, 2025. She was born June 27, 1958, in Long Beach, California, to the late Kenneth and Edna (Hughes) Lackey. Debbie graduated from Torrance High School with the class of 1976. She married the love of her life, Kevin Peter Wakefield, spontaneously while on a trip in Las Vegas, Nevada, on November 28, 1987, after they had been dating for multiple years.
Debbie and Kevin enjoyed traveling together and she would ride along for many of Kevin's trucking adventures when she could. They lived in multiple regions of the country over the past four decades, but when she became more ill, she asked Kevin to take her "Home" which meant moving back to the lower peninsula of Michigan.
Debbie had a heart of gold, was always willing to help others, and could never tell someone no even if it meant more pain or hardship on her afterwards. Some would say her only downfall was that she was kind to a fault or too nice for her own good. Debbie enjoyed many things throughout her life, her number one being her dogs and grandchildren of course. She also loved working in the yard and her flower gardens and had an excellent creative side to her with art and crafting. Debbie was an avid thrifter and frequent flyer to her local resale shops. She would return home from her shopping adventures with a smile on her face and proud to show the family her treasures from the day.
Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Kevin; daughter, Vickie Wakefield; son, David (Rose) Wakefield; 6 grandchildren, Damien, Kaitlin (Joseph), Thomas, Katrina, Austin, and Maya; and one sister, Gayle Purdy.
Debbie was preceded in death by her daughter, Amanda Wakefield; her parents, Ken and Edna; and her brother, Allen Lackey.
Per her wishes cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held at this time. A celebration of life is being planned for a later date and details will be announced as soon as they become available.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of the doctors, specialists, and nurses back in Michigan and back in Utah that were part of her medical team and helped Debbie and the family throughout her long journey.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to a charity of your choice.
