Dear Del,
I miss you more today than yesterday, but not half as much as tomorrow. We celebrated your life on the launch trip last Saturday. Hope you enjoyed the flowers. Missed that walleye chop you were so fond of pointing out to me. Everyone misses you so much. It makes me so sad to know what your children and grandchildren are missing with you not being here. You were the greatest grandpa ever. Your brothers and sisters and dad, your friends and relatives, everyone misses you. All my love, Patty

While it has been a year, I have not found peace with losing him! I still think of him while mowing my grass, almost the whole time. I would write more but it is between he, and I. I hope this “forever” guest book serves as a place for our family to connect and share as Del would have wanted us to. JB

Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary since we lost my dad. Although in some ways that loss has gotten easier, in many others it has gotten harder. I can honestly still say that I feel that loss as much now as I did that horrible day when the ER doc took Dirk and me into a private room and broke my heart by telling us my dad, the greatest dad, was gone.
I was pregnant when he died and I knew that having a baby without his grandpa (both of his grandpas) being there to greet him would be hard, but it's been harder than I thought would be. In Gabriel's eyes and smile I see him. There have been times when I have sworn that it was actually my dad smiling at me, and as sad as that makes me it also brings me peace. But no matter what, nothing stops that heartbreaking thought our Gabe will never meet him. My poor little boys... one will never meet his grandpa and the other misses him with all his little heart.
Please know that the support and the love we've felt from our family and friends over this past year has been tremendous. We love you all and appreciate you more than words can say.
Never will we forget, always will we love, and forever will we cherish our wonderful memories.
God bless,
The Johnson Family

I want to send a thank you to everyone who has signed this guestbook, attended the services, or sent us their sympathies in any other way. The support and concern from you all is greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. Losing my dad was the most shocking and heartbreaking moment of my life. It was completely unexpected and I never thought that he would leave us so early. There is a void left in my heart that will never be filled…
It goes without saying that he was a kind, generous, and loving man. His family, his entire family, was more important to him than anything else on this earth. He gave without wanting anything in return and loved as if there was no tomorrow. My mom was the love of his life, and they gave my brother and I the most loving and caring home possible. My husband found in him a second dad, that he could talk to and count on as if he had raised him too. He loved his grandchildren, his beautiful and amazing grandchildren, more than words can say and he never wanted anything more than to spend time with them. I am so sad and disappointed that my unborn son will never get to meet him and spend the time with him that he deserves.
I am so thankful for all of the wonderful memories that I have with him. My husband, son and I spent a lot of time with him and my mom, and I am so blessed that we had all that time together. Whether it was going for a bite to eat or spending the weekends up north, it was just wonderful that we were together. I am going to miss those times more than words can describe. I am going to miss my dad so much. These next few days, weeks, and months are going to be incredibly difficult for me and for everyone who loved him.

LaPointe Family,
We were so sorry to hear of the loss of Del. He was such an asset to the campground. He always had a spirit of joy with a big smile. I always knew when the Gophers were playing because I could hear it coming from your site. He was quite the Gopher fan. He will be deeply missed by all of his "Up North" family. We Love You
and are here for you. May God strengthen and comfort you.

Words really cannot express the hole the world will have without Del in it. I have only known him for about 7 years but have honestly never met anyone as kind and loving as he. I will miss his great hugs and kind ways. I always loved his jokes and stories too. It will not be the same.
Patty, Shannon, and Jeremy, please let me know if you need anything, even if it's just a shoulder. I love you all!!

I have many great memories of Del and they will be cherished forever. He was a positive influence on my life and a great role model. It was always great to spend time with him no matter what we were doing. I regret that after sharing our high school years and moving on to different branches of the military, our lives moved in different directions. After reading some of these posted comments, it reinforces the feelings I have always felt. No matter where Del is, he is making this world a better place just being who he is. His passing from this world does not change this. We are all blessed for having known him.
Our deepest sympathies go to his family.

Patty and Family,
Please know that we are saddened to know of Del's sudden death. We will be there for you in this great time of need. Del was a great person who loved life and always had a smile! He had just passed by on Saturday to give Sandy and I some "guff" as we were in the midst of cleaning our pontoon at the lake. As always he was smiling! He will be missed in the north!
God bless you and your family,

My uncle Del was an amazing man. I loved him very, VERY much and there is nothing that can be said during this difficult time to help the situation. All that I know is that uncle Del was admired and loved by so many people, as we can see, and that is what can get all of us through this horrible loss. The Lord has a great plan for anyone and everyone who is hurting through all of this. May God give us all strength to get through this rough time. Love you all.

Dear Patty and Family,
Del's death is a great loss for many of us. I will remember him as a classy, loving man that loved life. I will always remember, Patty, our January 2007 Cruise with 17 of us having such a great time, and the night that Del took part in that game show! God bless you all, and I pray that you will find comfort in Christ's promises of Eternal Life.

Del and my brother Gary were very good friends growing up. I have so many fond memories of Del. One of my favorites was at his going away party when he left for the service.
