Delbert Issac "Del" Wheeler May 6, 1954 – August 11, 2025
Delbert Issac "Del" Wheeler of Royal Oak, Michigan, passed away on August 11, 2025, at the age of 71.
Born on May 6, 1954, in Spring Lake, Michigan, Del was the beloved son of Wayne and Elizabeth Wheeler. He grew up in Spring Lake and graduated from Spring Lake High School in 1972. He later earned a degree in administration from Grand Valley State University, setting the stage for a life devoted to service and care for others.
Delbert dedicated much of his career to helping people - first as a paramedic in Spring Lake for 15 years, and later as a medical assistant, a role that truly captured his heart. His compassion, warmth, and ability to connect with others made a lasting impact on countless lives.
Del was also known and loved for his joyful role as a part-time Santa Claus, delighting children and families at local malls and private events with his kindness and festive spirit. A lifelong Detroit Lions fan, he remained ever hopeful for a winning season and proudly cheered them on every Sunday.
In 2019, Del became a proud member of the Freemasons, embracing the organization's values of brotherhood, charity, and personal growth - principles he had long lived by. His involvement brought him great pride and connection in his later years.
In 1977, Del married the love of his life, Barb. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and family. Del's greatest joy came from spending time with his children and grandchildren - creating memories, offering wisdom, and showering them with unconditional love.
Del is survived by his devoted wife, Barb; his loving children, Kristopher (Catherine) Wheeler and David (Kimberly) Wheeler; cherished grandchildren, Mason and Brooklynn; his father, Wayne Wheeler; and his brothers, Wayne, Jude, and Anthony. He is preceded in death by his dear mother, Elizabeth, and his brother, Michael.
A memorial visitation to celebrate Del's life will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with a memorial service beginning at 12:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Miracle Network - a cause close to Del's heart.
