Delores "Dee" Sylvia (Janes) Buchholz died during the night at the home she and Harvey built and loved for so many years in
Hendricks, MN on July 31st, 2025, at the age of 93 years, 6 months, and 20 days.
Dee was born on January 11th, 1932, to Charley and Mary (Jarrott) Janes in Sibley, Iowa. She lived in Sibley until she was 8, when her family moved to a farm west of Hendricks. Hendricks would be her home for the rest of her life. She attended country school and graduated from Hendricks Public School in 1950. She worked at the Minnesota Café, the Egg Plant in Marshall, the Census Bureau and sold Avon and Sarah Coventry throughout her life.
She married Harvey Buchholz, her partner in life, travel, family and adventure on June 14th, 1953 in
Hendricks, MN. Together they raised six spirited and loving children. This led to 18 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Each one was so special to Dee and she never forgot a birthday.
Delores loved her family fiercely and would do anything for them. She and Harvey would take them (and eventually the grandkids) on family vacations, and she loved to spend as much time with them as she could. During each holiday and special occasion her home was filled with any number of family and friends coming together to celebrate, eat, and reminisce. These were the times Delores loved the most. Her home was always open to anyone who needed it, whenever they needed it. She welcomed everyone with an open heart, a caring nature, and a want to learn all she could about them. Making sure that no one was ever left out, she always had a gift for everyone who showed up at Christmas. She wanted everyone to feel loved and included.
When she wasn't with family, Delores was involved in the Literary Club, TOPS (Eventually KOPS), and Card Club. She loved to watch the Twins, Vikings, and made it to every sports game she could to see her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids play. She would always cheer them on and be one of their biggest and fiercest fans. She loved to travel and especially loved her trips to Deadwood. She loved to crochet, cook, and collect cookbooks. Always a curious person who loved to learn, she went to senior college at SMSU in Marshall for many years and took every opportunity she could to learn something new and learn about how things work.
She will be forever missed deeply by: six children, Diane (Mark) Johnson of Aberdeen, SD, Kelly (Aprill) Buchholz, Cindy (Jerry) Larson, and Mike (Julie) Buchholz, all of Hendricks, Kim (Dave) Nelson of Belle Fourche, SD, Kevin Buchholz of Hendricks. One exchange child, Jan Asmussen of Esbjerg, Denmark. As well as 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Chuck (Carol), Keith (Jan), Bob, David (Vicki), and Stephen Janes; sisters-in-law, Donna (Buzz) Durham, Martha Buchholz, Karen Vonderheide, June Buchholz, Pam Schmahl, and Janet Ballagh; and one Brother-in-Law, Robert (Kathy) Buchholz. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Waiting to welcome her home as she always did for them includes her husband of 68 years, Harvey; her parents; Beloved aunt Vera (Guy) Durfee; two sisters, Helen (Donald) Tomaszewski and Marilyn (Lawrence) Tomaszewski; one brother, Richard Janes; sisters-in-law, Roxanne Janes, Linda Janes, and Eleanor Johannsen; brothers-in-law, James, Richard (Marian), Donald, and Arlon Buchholz, parents-in-law Julius and Elsie Buchholz.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky to have known her and been loved by her.
