Delores Melton Roberts, 83, of Black Mountain, NC passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024, in her home surrounded by family. She lost a courageous two-year battle with mesothelioma cancer.
Delores was born June 18, 1941, in Buncombe County to the late Lewis Melton, Sr. and Ollie Lackey Melton. She loved her family and her church community at First Baptist Church of Swannanoa, where she was also a member. She enjoyed gardening and painting, and pleasing others with her cooking. Delores was passionate about Black Mountain Home for Children where she worked for over 15 years and continued to volunteer after she retired until she was 79 years old.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of 45 years, Clyde Earl Roberts; daughters, Kim Haynes Johnson (Gil) of Youngsville, NC, and Durenda Haynes Bartholomy (Tom) of Morganton, NC; stepdaughter, Kathy Ann Roberts of Asheville, NC; sons, Robert "Rocky" Haynes of Black Mountain, NC, Col. Timothy Blane Haynes (Lisa) of Maryville, TN, and Michael Dean Haynes of Wake Forest, NC; stepsons, Clyde Earl Roberts, Jr. (Anita) of Connelly Springs, NC and Jeffrey Lee McKinney (Donna) of Asheville, NC; brother, Lewis Melton, Jr. (Frances) of Black Mountain, NC; 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; two nephews and one niece who she loved dearly.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 11:00am at First Baptist Church of Swannanoa, 503 Park Street, Swannanoa, NC 28778. A reception will immediately follow the service at the church. As a Celebration of Life, please feel free to wear Delores' favorite color Purple or bright colors.
In remembrance of Delores Melton Roberts' life, the family asks in lieu of flowers, that charitable donations be made to one of her passions, Black Mountain Home for Children, https://www.blackmountainhome.org/deloresroberts/
The family would like to extend special thanks to her beloved brother, Lewis Melton, Jr. and her caring sister-in-law, Frances Melton, for the love, care, hot meals week in and week out, and for letting her win at 9 hole occasionally; also thanks to Cheryl Morris for her friendship and tender loving care until the very end, and to the traveling care team from Four Seasons Hospice.

Nanny used to take me to consignment shops and to good will
and she showed me how to make biscuits from scratch and we used to make a chocolate cake and she taught me how to draw and to paint and we used to go walking and I used to spend the night over there
and I gave her a nickname and it was nanny bear and I will miss her so much.

I agree with Sherri Davis who shared,
`Delores was so sweet and caring. Her faith in Jesus and His love was always in her words and actions.´
She was my Faith Mother and I always felt so loved. I love her and will be with her in Heaven for all Eternity through our trust in Jesus Christ!
Mike and I are sending Clyde, and her family, our sympathy.

Delores was so sweet and caring. Her faith in Jesus and His love was always in her words and actions. She prayed for others, cooked for others, visited others who were sick, even though was facing battles, too. I am so thankful she was part of my life. I will always remember her kindness and will see her in Heaven. Delores is in the arms of Jesus. Praise His Holy Name. Love, Sherri Davis
