Delores Hale Sarpas, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, at the Lincoln Hill Care Center in New Albany, Indiana, at the age of 91. Born on August 15, 1934, in Carter County, Kentucky, she was the beloved daughter of the late Robert W. and Ella Mae Hicks Hale.
Delores was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Lawrence P. Sarpas, who she lost in 1996, as well as her brother, Kenneth Hale, and her sister, Loretta "Faye" Stephens. Her family and friends will forever remember her as a woman of strength, grace, and unwavering faith.
A proud veteran, Delores served her country in the United States Air Force, embodying a deep love for her nation and a commitment to service. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a devoted member of the Methodist Church. Delores dedicated many years to her career at the Hyatt Corporation, where her warm spirit and work ethic left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Delores was actively involved in her community and held memberships in several organizations, including the Carter County ROTC, the Poage Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames 17th Century, and the Daughters of Pioneers and Patriots. Her passion for history and service was evident in her contributions to these groups, where she inspired others with her dedication and enthusiasm.
She is survived by her two sons, H. Wayne (Lisa) Deboard, Jr. of Washington and William L. (Deana) Sarpas of Indiana, along with her four beloved grandchildren: Brennan M. Sarpas, William D. Sarpas, Lauren Deboard, and Heidi M. Sarpas. Delores also leaves behind a host of close friends and extended family who will deeply miss her presence and the joy she brought into their lives.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Friday, September 26, 2025, at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson. Burial will follow at the Hale Cemetery in Olive Hill. Visitation will be from 12 noon until the service hour on Friday.
