Clellon Burton Lucas, affectionately known as Clell, age 84, of Rush, Kentucky, peacefully departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at the UK King's Daughters Medical Center in Ashland. Born on May 24, 1941, in Denton, Kentucky, Clell was the beloved son of the late Frank and Mary Burton Lucas. He was preceded in death by his cherished son, Jeffery Allen Lucas, and a loving family that included five brothers-William "Obe" Robert, Clarence "Bug" Eugene, Clay (his twin), Jack Lee, and Johnny Ray Lucas-and seven sisters-Deloris "Puger" Fryer, Lois Ann Davis, Janie Louise "Dolly" Campbell, Ona Mae Bailey, Wilma "Dodie" Click, Rosemary Lucas Thornberry and Brenda Kay Lucas.
A proud U.S. Army veteran, Clell served his country honorably from 1961 to 1962. Following his military service, he dedicated 16 years of his life to working at AK Steel, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. Clell's passion for service extended far beyond his professional life; he was a pillar of his community, playing a vital role in establishing the Norton Branch Fire Department, Good Samaritans of Grayson, the American Red Cross of Carter County, Adult Education services, and the Grayson Ministers Association. His faith was a guiding force in his life, and he was instrumental in founding the Faith Freewill Baptist Church, serving as pastor to numerous congregations across Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia, and Tennessee.
Clell is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Bonnie Lou Boggs Lucas, who stood by his side through all of life's joys and challenges. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his daughter, Sherry Lucas Hill; his sons, Joseph Brandon Lucas and James Dickens; and his grandchildren, Kendall (Gabe) Dearfield, Daulton Lucas, Jacob Lucas, Damian Lucas, Noah Lucas, Stefani Seagraves, and Ashton Lucas. He was especially close to his great-grandchildren, Persephone "Percy," Penelope "Penny," and Eddie, who brought him immense joy and pride. Clell is also survived by his brother, Tommy Joe Lucas, and a host of extended family and friends who will deeply miss his warmth and kindness.
Funeral services to honor Clell's remarkable life will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Malone Funeral Home, with Pastor Mickey King and Bro. Waldo Wilburn officiating.
