Delores Schavey, age 90 of Blue Earth passed away Friday November 1, 2024 at St. Luke’s Care Center with her devoted family by her side. A funeral service will be held at 11AM Tuesday November 5 at Patton Funeral Home in Blue Earth with Rev. Michael Klatt officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Blue Earth. Online condolences can be left and a livestream of the service can be viewed at www.pattonfh.com
Delores Jean Schavey was born January 13, 1934, in Pilot Grove Township, Faribault County to Charles and Margaret (Blaney) Johnston. She and her family eventually moved to the East Chain area where she attended East Chain School, graduating in 1952. She met Russell Schavey while roller skating at Ankeny’s in Blue Earth while she was still in high school. Their relationship blossomed into love and marriage and they were married June 19, 1954, and their marriage lasted 65 years until Russell’s death in 2020.
For a couple of years after high school, Delores, “Jean,” worked jobs in Fairmont and Blue Earth. Russell and Delores farmed northeast of Blue Earth during their time together, where they raised their two sons, David and Harlan.
Known as Delores by the Schavey family and Jean by the Johnston family, she was a loving caretaker to many family, friends, and neighbors all throughout her life. Delores devoted many years serving as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Cooking, gardening, canning, and freezing garden items were things she enjoyed. She also stayed busy helping with various chores on the farm. She also helped a dear friend and neighbor with catering for several years.
Health issues entered her life such that, since 2012, she had been living in assisted living or nursing homes with the majority of her time spent at St. Lukes in Blue Earth. Knowing the caretaker she was, she and her family appreciate all the care she received during this time.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, David (Denise) and Harlan (Sue) Schavey, all of Blue Earth; her grandchildren, Brian (Vanessa) and Kevin Schavey and Lauren and Grace Schavey; and many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; granddaughter, Erin Schavey; parents, Charles and Margaret Johnston; sisters Anna Brausen, Violet Nichtern, and Evelyn McMurty; brother Ambrose Johnston, and their spouses.
400 East 14th Street, Blue Earth, MN 56013
