Dena Sutermaster

Dena J. Sutermaster, age 60, of West View, formerly of Glenshaw, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 26, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Charles and M. Rae (McFarland) Sutermaster.
Loving sister of Jay (Sandy) Sutermaster, Lesa (Jeffrey) Rock, Carl (Nora) Sutermaster, Tina (Kenneth) Zimmerman, and Dona Sutermaster; cherished aunt of Bryan (Heather) Sutermaster, Staci Sutermaster, Jonathan (Bethany Hatheway) Rock, Aaron (Sarah) Rock, Heather (TJ) Rabenstein, Adam Sutermaster, Christopher (Stephanie Baker) Zimmerman, and Cassandra Zimmerman; proud great-aunt of Harlowe and Brenley Sutermaster, Aidan, Landon, and Greyson Rabenstein. Beloved niece of Dorothy Muzopappa. Also survived by her beloved cat, Bennett.
Though grounded by humility, Dena quietly led a very accomplished life. She graduated from Shaler High School in 1980 and continued on to receive her masters in nursing education from University of Pittsburgh. She taught nursing at the University of Pittsburgh and Montana State University Billings. While teaching at Montana State, Dena also served as a visiting nurse on the Crow Reservation. As an extension of her nursing career, she authored and edited books on hospice and palliative care. More recently, Dena was a second unit director and script continuity director on the movie Jack
and the Tree House. Dena was a devoted and active member of St. Athanasius Church, West View, PA.
Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2023 in Our Lady of Mt. Caramel Parish, St. Athanasius Church, West View.
In remembrance of Dena Sutermaster's life, the family asks for any charitable donations be made to Animal Friends on Camp Horne Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237 and Genesis of Pittsburgh at 550 California Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15202. Dena was an incredibly thoughtful and giving person, whose world revolved around her family and helping anyone in need. She will be missed greatly
by her family and many friends.
