Denis S. Hine

Denis Sheldon Hine, age 81 of Avon Lake, Ohio, formerly of Bay Village, Ohio, passed away on September 16, 2025. He was born in Sandusky, Ohio on February 27, 1944, to the late Thomas and Arline (nee Ziemke) Hine.

Growing up in Sandusky, Denis spent many summers working as a ride operator at Cedar Point. He attended college at Ohio University, where he then earned his MBA. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Beverly Backes. After graduation, he was drafted to serve in the United States Army, and he was honorably discharged in 1970. On his return, he began working in retail marketing for SOHIO in Cleveland. Bev and Denny were married in 1971 and spent 54 beautiful years together, raising a family and seeing the world.

Denis was proud to be a veteran of the United States Army. He volunteered for the Blind Veteran's Association, as the editor of the monthly newsletter for over 30 years. Denis was very involved in his community at Bethesda on the Bay Lutheran Church, where he volunteered as the financial secretary and served as an usher for many years. Denis enjoyed spending time traveling, listening to audio books, and was a diehard fan of Cleveland sports teams. He was a dedicated husband, father and brother, and appreciated spending time with his family.

Denis is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly (nee Backes) Hine; cherished daughters Katherine Hine and Andrea (Andie) Hine; dearest granddaughter Arline; loving sister Linda (nee Hine) Benefiel; niece Kimberly Craigs, and husband Kevin, and niece Michelle Sanderson and husband Rick, and numerous other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Arline Hine and brother-in-law Robert Benefiel.

Services for Denis will be held at Bethesda on the Bay Lutheran Church, 28607 Wolf Rd, Bay Village, OH 44140 on October 4, 2025 at 11:00 AM. A luncheon at church will be held after services. www.buschcares.com 440-933-3202.
