Dennis J. Allen, 75, of Quarryville, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, November 11, 2024, as a result of injuries he sustained from a motor vehicle accident. He was the beloved husband of Susan M. (Pleger) Allen, with whom he shared 43 years of marriage.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late John L. and Ruth E. (Zimmerman) Allen.
Dennis attended the Bart-Colerain Schools and was a graduate of Solanco High School, class of 1968. Following high school, he found employment with Armstrong World Industries as a planner/scheduler, retiring with 33 years of service and never having taken a sick day. Following Armstrong, Dennis worked for Compliance Navigation Specialists as a messenger, retiring in 2016.
Putting together trips around the world by cruise ship, bus, or train for Armstrong World Industries Lab Association and the Lancaster Chapter NRHS was Dennis' passion. His reward for the trips he organized was seeing his plans come together and having fellow colleagues, railroad fans, family, and friends experience new places and cultures. Dennis felt he was very blessed to have traveled to at least 102 countries. He loved his Lord and Savior, his wife, and his family. He was a member of Grace Community Church of Willow Street and formerly a member of Mount Hope United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sisters-in-law, Kathy (George) Crouse, of New Holland, and Deb (Ron) Irwin, of Lancaster; a niece, Lynn (Harry) Rideout, of Pittsburgh; nephews, Mike (Sharon Scanlon) Irwin, of Pottstown, Kevin (Rebecca) Crouse, of Intercourse, and John (Melissa) Irwin, of Lititz; mother-in-law, Mary Pleger, of Lancaster; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles L. Allen, and a father-in-law, John Pleger.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Grace Community Church of Willow Street, 212 Peach Bottom Road, Willow Street, PA 17584. There will be a time of visitation at the church from 10 – 10:45, with the service starting promptly at 11:00. Interment will take place at Mount Hope United Methodist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dennis' memory to Rawlinsville Camp Meeting, 475 Clearfield Road, Holtwood, PA 17532, or to Growing with Grace Fund of Grace Community Church of Willow Street at the above address (please make checks payable to "GCCWS" and write "Growing with Grace" on the memo line) or online at gccws.net/give (choose "Growing with Grace – Capital Campaign" from the dropdown fund box).
