Dennis Harold Angus, 68, of Austin, Texas, passed away on June 9, 2025. He died at Heart Hospital of Austin at St. David's Round Rock Medical Center due to complications following a series of cardiac procedures. Dennis is survived by his wife, Debbie (McGee) Angus, sons and daughters-in-law Matthew and Shannah Angus and Michael and Elisha Angus, and grandsons Brooks, Archer, and Bowen. Dennis was deeply loved and will be incredibly missed by his family. Our hearts are broken.
Dennis was born December 1, 1956, in Fort Knox, Kentucky, the youngest of four children of (now-deceased) parents George Harold Angus and Dorothy Olive Jordan. Dennis is survived by his three sisters, Cheryl Angus (John Taylor d. 1976), Deborah (Donnie) Huckaby (Don d. 2018), and Nancy Nash (Chris), and his "second set of parents," Richard and Joy McGee, his sister-in-law Pam Crouse (Harry) and his brother-in-law Steve McGee (Renée). Dennis was fortunate to have many nieces and nephews in Texas, Oregon, Northern California, Illinois, and Washington D.C., and he especially enjoyed catching up with them. He was proud to watch them grow up and, for many, raise families of their own. He was loved and respected by all the Angus and McGee kids.
Dennis lived his childhood as an Army dependent on posts in the U.S. and Germany until his father's retirement at Fort Hood. He graduated from Killeen High School and attended Stephen F. Austin State University where he received a double-major degree in Accounting and Finance. After college, he worked as an auditor at the State Comptroller of Public Accounts' Dallas Audit Office and later earned his CISA certification. Over the next 46+ years, he made a career at the Comptroller's office as a programmer in multiple divisions, always with a focus on assisting others in their duties. Most recently, he served in the Unclaimed Property Division and eagerly helped the team in returning monies to rightful owners.
Dennis was known for his great sense of humor and for never meeting a stranger. Whether he was traveling, shopping or hanging out in the neighborhood, he engaged with people around him; he was quick to find common connections. His hobbies and interests varied, depending on his stage in life and what activities his family enjoyed. He golfed, bowled, played softball, biked, ran 10Ks (and a few half- and full- marathons) and was a hunter and fisherman. He coached little league baseball when his sons were young and competed with them in Fantasy Football in recent years. He looked forward to weekends and holidays spent at the ranch, sharing the outdoors and a simpler life with his in-laws, kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews, and friends. He found 4-wheelers, tractors, and fishing poles more fun than almost anything.
After Debbie retired in 2019, she and Dennis increased their travels, mainly to the West Coast, visiting family, enjoying the beaches (and seafood) and taking in the sights. His favorite excursions were touring wineries, sampling wines, and visiting with winemakers, several of whom opened casks for him to taste a work-in-process.
Dennis was the go-to guy for the family. Whether it was taxes and investments, projects around the house, or life advice, most everyone asked Dennis for his opinion and he always delivered, albeit with his signature touch of humor. He was quick to volunteer to help with projects, and in May completed a patio cover for his son's family in Washington state.
Dennis was very proud of his sons and daughters-in-law and loved them with his whole heart; he believed each had met their soulmate. He appreciated them as parents and, most of all, was thankful to call the four of them his best friends. He marveled at his grandsons and believed that they would one day make the world a better place with their enthusiasm and compassion.
Dennis' spirit of helping others will continue to live through his donation to United Tissue Resources. His beautiful blue-green eyes will help the recipient's eyesight and other donations will help the healing process. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to World Central Kitchen or a food pantry of your choosing. A memorial service is planned for 10:00 am, Friday, June 27, 2025, at Beck Funeral Home, 15709 Ranch Road 620, Austin, Texas.

Dennis, you will be missed. As a former co-worker, I recalled a dedicated and trustworthy person who diligently performed his responsibilities and more. You can definitely see this by him being with the same employer for 46 years and most of all his marriage to Debbie for 42 years. People like Dennis tend to have a significant impact on people's lives. We need more people like Dennis. Again, you will be missed.

I worked with Dennis for a short time at the Comptroller's office several years ago. I enjoyed his company and he once took me and my son dove hunting. Such a nice person to meet in this life. I wish the Angus family all the best.

Dear Angus family,
While I did not know Dennis personally, the Texas Comptroller employees were a huge family. Your tribute to Dennis was so beautiful. His memory will be remembered and cherished by all Comptrollers. May you find peace in knowing 'Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal'.
