Dennis "Duke" Barry, 80, passed away on March 5, 2026, closing out a long life filled with hard work, a healthy dose of sarcasm and humor, and just the right amount of grumpy stubbornness.
He followed in his dad's footsteps and started his career as a welder, later owning his own wrought iron business, and finally retiring at age 78 as a Structural Steel Estimator. He believed in working hard, saying what he meant, and fixing things yourself. If something couldn't be fixed with the proper tools, there was always a decent chance duct tape, determination, and mild stubbornness would get it done.
Outside of work, he loved to barbecue and would sit outside for hours listening to the police scanner and watching the weather. If you were lucky enough to eat Dad's barbecue ribs, you probably left with a full belly and a funny story to go with it.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond J. and Grace Barry, his daughter Jaime, and his grandson Corey. He is survived by his sister Gail and brother Bruce; his children Kimberly, Dana, TJ, and Kate; his grandchildren Brianna, Amanda, Jake, Isabel, Hayleigh, Noah, Lucas, Savannah, Mateo, Cale, Liam, Alden, and Ava; and his great-grandson Elijah-all of whom carry forward his practical mindset, sarcasm, and appreciation for a good laugh.
Per his wishes, there will be no service. Dad said if you didn't come visit him when he was alive, he didn't want you to come visit now that he's gone.
He lived a full life, built a lot of things along the way, and left behind plenty of memories-some heartfelt, some hilarious, and a few that probably shouldn't be repeated in polite company. And if he were here to read this, he'd probably shake his head and say what he always did when he thought we were being ridiculous: "What the fartin' hell?"
