With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dennis David Devost. Dennis passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in McHenry, Illinois at the age of 77. He was born on July 27, 1947, in Biddeford, Maine. Dennis married the love of his life, Eleanor "Ellie" Devost, on October 22, 1993, in Gainesville, Florida. They cherished 31 wonderful years together.
Dennis was a man of many interests. He had a deep passion for playing the stock market, often managing his portfolio with a keen eye and a sense of strategy that those close to him admired. While he took his financial pursuits seriously, Dennis was equally known for his great sense of humor. His jokes and stories could light up a room, making even the cloudiest of days seem just a little brighter. He found joy in the simple things, like tending to his yard, where he poured his heart into creating a little piece of paradise. And for those who knew him well, watching WWE wrestling with Dennis was a treat, as he cheered for his favorite wrestlers with unmatched enthusiasm.
Dennis was a proud born-again Republican, an ideological shift sparked by his reflections on the political landscape during the era of Jimmy Carter. Conversations with him about politics were lively and insightful, revealing his passion for the issues that mattered most to him.
Dennis is survived by his wife: Eleanor "Ellie" Devost; his daughter: Beth (Matt) Lloyd; his grandchildren: Finley, Matson, and Rowan Lloyd; his 4 sisters; and his beloved cat: Mindy Lou. He was preceded in death by his parents: Simon and Elizabeth Dunham; and his 2 brothers.
Memorial donations may be made in Dennis's name to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, https://give.michaeljfox.org/give/421686/#!/donation/checkout.
As we come together in the days ahead, let us remember Dennis for the light he brought into our lives, his unwavering spirit, and the laughter that filled our hearts.
