Dennis T. Farrell, of Manchester New Hampshire, formerly of Reading, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday March 16th, 2025. He was 85 years of age.
Dennis graduated from Boston College in 1962 with a degree in Business Administration. While at BC, he was a member of ROTC and, upon graduation, entered the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant, serving for three years.
In 1963, he married Ellen, and after his military service, he pursued a career in law enforcement. In the 1970s, he joined the Reading Police Department, where he served until his retirement in December 1995.
During the 1970s, he also furthered his education at Northeastern University, earning a degree in Criminal Justice while working toward a master’s degree in Political Science. At the same time, he joined the National Guard and led the Massachusetts Rifle Team, serving for 12 years.
He cherished summers in Maine with his family, creating lifelong memories by the water. In his retirement, he enjoyed an active lifestyle, playing golf, bridge, and poker, and even calling bingo. He loved staying engaged in his community and making the most of his well-earned retirement.
Dennis is the husband of Ellen (Trottier) Farrell. He is the cherished father of Denise Flannery and her husband Stephen, Brian Farrell and his wife Lynda, Doreen Farrell and the late Karin Bourque and her surviving husband Michael. Loving grandfather of Stephen Flannery and his fiancée Jess, Kasey Dunn and her husband Brian, Michael Bourque, Dennis Farrell, Jeremy Bourque, Jane LaMoore and her husband Josh, Zachary Bourque and his fiancée Seirena, Patrick Farrell and Ellen Farrell. Great grandfather of Cora and Nolan Dunn. Dear brother of the late William Farrell.
Family and friends are kindly invited to gather and share memories with the family on Tuesday March 25th, 2025 from 2 pm to 5 pm in the Doherty Barile Family Funeral Home 11 Linden St. READING followed by a Funeral Service Celebrating Dennis' Eternal Life at 5 pm. Parking attendants and elevator available.
