Dennis W. Goebel was born on August 17, 1942, to Bill and Rose (Griffith) Goebel in Gettysburg, SD. He was the oldest of nine children. Dennis graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1960 and then joined the United States Army. Dennis was active duty in the Army from 1961-1965 and in the Army Reserves for 20 years following, best known as "cook."
In 1965, he met the love of his life, Sharon Wright. They were married on August 19, 1967, in Highmore, SD, and moved to Aberdeen, SD, shortly after.
Dennis and family moved to Mitchell in 1970, where he started his career with the IRS. He was transferred back to Aberdeen in 1974, where he continued his career with the IRS until retiring in 1997. When he retired and started working at M&H gas station, enjoying all the people he met and the free endless coffee he could drink. He later worked for State Street, Plaza, United Clinic, and DT Pharmacies, delivering medications for a number of years and always said he enjoyed it so much he'd have done it for free.
Dennis and Sharon enjoyed traveling over the years to Las Vegas with his brothers and some friends and their wives. They all enjoyed getting together and having lots of laughs for this annual trip. Dennis was a lifelong member of the NSU Wolves Club. His faith in God was very important in his life. As a child, he served as an altar boy and right-hand man of the priests at Sacred Heart in Gettysburg as he grew up in a faith-filled family. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Aberdeen and often attended daily mass at Presentation Heights.
Dennis' pride and joy were his three grandchildren, Janey, Payton, and Addyson, and great-grandson Liam. He truly enjoyed watching them grow up and become the best versions of themselves. Dennis enjoyed attending his children's high school activities as they grow up. He was always a big supporter of everything they did!
Dennis is survived by his wife, Sharon; two children: Jason Goebel and Sara (Brad) Thorstad; two brothers: Dean (Pam) Goebel and Phil (Aleta) Goebel; four sisters: Bonnie (Roger) Hagenlock, Mary (Donn) Quiett, Barbara (Winston) Forred, and Cathy (Donnie) Vetch; brother-in-law Randy (Alice) Wright; and many nieces and nephews, and cousins.
Dennis is preceded in death by his mother, Rose; dad, Bill; two sisters, Donna and Joyce; as well as his mother and father-in-law, Marian and Ross Wright.
Dennis' family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the staff at Prairie Heights for their dedicated care.
