Elvera R. Kuhfield was born on December 30, 1931, to Herman and Ella (Kempf) Kuhfield in Aberdeen, SD. She grew up and attended school in Warner, SD; graduating from Warner High School. After high school she started her career at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as a Telephone Operator.

On September 12, 1952, Elvera married Dale Penfield. They made their home in Aberdeen and raised their three children: Michelle, Kelley, and Julie. Dale died October 10, 1991. On November 2, 1996, Elvera married Rodger Bierman, and they lived on a farm by Northville, SD. Rodger died March 19, 2022.

Elvera enjoyed reading and doing word searches. She bowled, and in her early years roller skated, and ice skated. She loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She liked to cook and bake treats for her family to enjoy. She liked to eat and occasionally enjoyed a glass of wine. In her later years, she often created crafts and artwork and entered them in competitions at the fair.

Elvera was a quiet lady, but she had a sense of humor. She was adventurous and was not afraid to try something new or exciting. She had a strong faith and loved to go to Church.

Grateful for having shared Elvera's life are her children: Michelle (Richard) Wilson, Kelley ( Denise) Penfield, and Julie Berg; grandchildren: Tim Wilson, Brandy (Eric) Olson, Amanda Keefe, Sadie (Tim) Payne, Krysta (Wilmer) Figueroa, Jessie (Mark) Tschetter, Tiffany (Lonnie) Lambertus, Hailey Berg, and Kasey Berg; and 24 great-grandchildren; step-children: Marvie (Allen) Spear, Teri (Virgil) Determan, and Bret (Sandy) Bierman; and many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren

Preceding Elvera in death are her parents, Herman and Ella Kuhfield; both husbands, Dale Penfield and Rodger Bierman; grandchildren, Robyn Wilson & Jacob Wilson; son-in-law, Bruce Berg; and siblings: Delores Jorgens, Hazel Kurth, Edward Kufield, Melvin Kufield, Ervin Kufield and Verna Schock.
