Dennis was born on February 27, 1953, in Bakersfield, California. After graduating from North High School, he served in the US Army before earning degrees from Bakersfield College and UC Davis. His passion for DNA science led him to UCLA, where he earned a Ph.D. in Molecular and Medical Pharmacology.
Dennis worked as a chemist, winemaker, and criminalist before teaching chemistry at BC and CSUB. Even as his health declined, he continued teaching with supplemental oxygen and a wheelchair, determined to share his love of science.
Possessing a brilliant mind and lifelong love of learning, Dennis combined intellectual rigor with heartfelt compassion. He served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and AWANA leader. He enjoyed playing the guitar, golfing, reading, watching sports, and cooking-his Christmas Eve prime rib was a family tradition.
Dennis is lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Karen; son James; daughter-in-law Kathryn; daughter Lissa; bonus kids Brad and Stacey; and beloved corgi, Poppy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Lois Harvey.
A Memorial Service will be held on November 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Resurrection Church, 48 Manor St., Bakersfield, CA. Dennis Harvey February 27, 1953 - October 2, 2025 Bakersfield -
