Dennis Frederick Knecht Sr., of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, passed away on October 14, 2024, at the age of 67. Born on July 22, 1957, in Jefferson, Louisiana, he was a man whose warmth and generosity touched the lives of many.
Dennis grew up in a close-knit family and was the beloved son of Joyce West Knecht and the late Frederick Henry Knecht Sr. A devoted father, Dennis is survived by his two children, Dennis "DJ" Frederick Knecht Jr. (Kacie) and Cody Gene Knecht (Jessica). He took immense pride in his role as a parent, guiding his children with a generous heart. His grandchildren, Ayden, Kane, and Krue Knecht, will remember their grandfather as a source of endless support and affection.
Dennis's siblings, Denise Knecht Laudun (Keith), Penny Knecht Walters (Bobby), Michele Knecht Henssler (Hans), and Frederick Henry Knecht Jr. (Rebecca), will hold dear the memories of a brother who was always there for them, ready to lend an ear or a helping hand. His presence in their lives was a constant reminder of the enduring bonds of family.
Dennis graduated from Marion Abramson High School with the Class of 1975. His early career saw him at the helm of K&L Barge and C&M Construction, where he was known for his strong work ethic and leadership. His dedication to serving others led him to a distinguished career as a New Orleans Firefighter. His bravery and commitment to the safety of his community earned him the respect and admiration of both colleagues and those he served. Upon retirement, Dennis continued to embody the values of service and community that had defined his professional life.
Dennis was a very hard working man who moved to the Rigolets Marina in his teens, where he developed a love for the water, shrimping, and crabbing. He loved the time he spent hunting with his grandson, Ayden, and riding with his sidekick, Toby. Dennis loved his family with all of his heart and was a loving father and grandfather. Over the years, he rarely missed the opportunity to attend ballpark activities with his sons and grandsons. He treasured any time spent with family and friends, just being together, having fun, and even dancing!
Dennis will be greatly missed. Thank you to everyone who expressed sympathies, deep concern, and prayers for our families at this challenging time. It is greatly appreciated. A private funeral service will be held.

Joyce, I remember you and Freddy dancing at the 25th anniversary party for Dee and me. We lived in Venetian Isles and you lived at the Riggolets. You were the first one to tell me you and Freddy felt the earthquake on the Madras Fault..that everyone said was not a real earthquake!! Our children grew up in New Orleans at the same time. As a mother who lost a son, I know the actual pain of your heartache. I´d love to talk with you mother to mother. Susan Geoghegan

I remember Dennis as a sweet, caring person. He was a lot of fun to be with. I was his girlfriend in high school for several years later to become his finance. I have nothing but good memories of him and the time we spent together.
I´m so sorry to hear of his death. My thoughts and prayers are with his family
