Dennis D. Kompare, 85, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away on Saturday, October 5, 2024. Born on July 29, 1939, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he was the eldest son of Angela and Francis Kompare. Dennis is survived by his brothers, Wayne of Sarasota, Florida, and Bill of Waterbury, Connecticut.
A proud graduate of Catholic Central High School in Pittsburgh, Dennis went on to earn a degree in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. In November 1961, he married the love of his life, Joanne Blanche Wilson, with whom he shared nearly 50 wonderful years before her passing in 2011.
Dennis served his country as a First Lieutenant in the Army's Ordnance Corps until January 1964. Following his military service, he had a distinguished career with DuPont and Union Carbide, where he traveled the globe for over 20 years, making countless memories and friendships along the way.
Dennis is lovingly remembered by his three children: Denise Houghton and her husband Robert of Manalapan, New Jersey, and their five children-Patrick Moke (wife Kristen and son Nolan), Christopher Moke (wife Camille), Karli Moke, Mark Houghton, and Dillon Houghton; Desiree Kardashian and her husband Jon of Gainesville, Virginia, and their two children, Jonathan and Brielle Kardashian; and Doug Kompare of Jacksonville, Florida.
A dedicated member of his community, Dennis was actively involved in various organizations, serving as an usher and lector at his church, volunteering with Catholic Charities, and participating on several HOA boards and committees.
Dennis leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and community service that will be cherished by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at St. Johns Family Funeral Home in St. Augustine. A Catholic Prayer Service will take place at 5:30 p.m. A Memorial Mass and burial with military honors at Jacksonville National Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Catholic Charities in Dennis's memory.
