Dennis Michael Schaefer

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dennis Michael Schaefer, age 65, on June 8, 2025. Dennis was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Dennis was born to Joseph and Mary Jane Schaefer and grew up in Plymouth, MI, surrounded by a close-knit family and neighborhood. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his brothers, Patrick and Robert (Bob). Dennis is survived by his children, Lillian (Adam) Smith and Patrick Schaefer; his grandchildren, Lincoln Smith, and Quinn Smith; his sister, Jane Ann Schaefer; and his brother, Dick (Jane) Schaefer, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who cherished him deeply.
A lifelong learner with a deep love of history, art, comedy, and music/ radio. His love of illustrating comics and humor was only rivaled by his love for conversation and sharing a meal with those closest to him. He earned a degree from Grand Valley State University, followed by a teaching degree from Olivet College. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a volunteer.
Dennis will be remembered not only for his intellectual curiosity and artistic talents, but for his extrovertedness, storytelling, and kindness. He had an innate ability to connect with people, and his conversations were always filled with humor, and compassion. A funeral service is being held at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Plymouth, MI, on June 24th with instate starting at 9:30am and mass at 10:30am. A lunch will also take place after the service at Sean O'Callaghan's Public House.
