Dennis Gene Shelburne, 79, went to be with the Lord on July 9, 2025, at Homestead Post Acute in Lexington, Kentucky, surrounded peacefully by his loving family.
Dennis was born on February 23, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Carl L. and Catherine (Marcella) Fogle Shelburne. He was a proud graduate of Flaget High School and served honorably in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967. Following his military service, Dennis built a career in telecommunications, eventually owning and operating his own business, Sheltel.
A devout Catholic, Dennis lived a life marked by faith, humor, and hard work. He will be remembered for his determination, quick wit, and the warmth he shared with everyone around him. He enjoyed a good game of pool, afternoons on the golf course, bird watching, and long conversations on the front porch with friends, especially those at Windsor Gardens in Georgetown his last few years.
Dennis is survived by his sister, Linda Shelburne. Known as Pepa to them, he is survived by his grandchildren, Alexis Harp (Patrick), Autumn LaTulippe (Christian), and Nick Shelburne; and his great-grandchildren, Aspen and Rowan LaTulippe. He was expecting another great granddaughter later this year. He was especially close to his granddaughter, Alexis, who also served as his caregiver in his final years.
He is preceded in death by his sons, Dennis (Denny) Shelburne Jr. and James (Jamey) Shelburne; and his siblings, Carl R. Shelburne and Shirley Shelburne Hartlage.
A visitation and service will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home in Georgetown, Kentucky at 5:00 PM with service to follow. Dennis will be cremated, as per his wishes.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Family and friends are encouraged to leave memories and condolences on Dennis's page located at www.tuckeryocumwilson.com
