Dennis O. Sherwood, 75, of Aberdeen, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 2, 2024. Dennis was born on January 6, 1949, in Kingston, Jamaica, where he grew up. In the late 1960's he immigrated to the United States, settling in Bronx, New York, where he and his beloved wife, Rema, were married on July 28, 1974. Dennis and Rema began their family in the Bronx, before settling in Aberdeen, New Jersey in 1985. Before his retirement, Dennis worked as an accountant for the Plumbers Local Union #1 in Queens, New York. Prior, he also worked for UFCW Local #174 and Glemby International.
While living in Jamaica, Dennis attended Calabar High School. Throughout his life as an alumnus, he remained extremely involved with Calabar High School always making sure to visit whenever he returned to Jamaica. His dedication led to him being elected as the 2nd Vice President of the Calabar Alumni Association of New York and he worked to organize fundraisers and events to support the students and athletes of Calabar High School. His support of the children of Jamaica motivated him to volunteer with The Children of Jamaica Outreach(COJO), whose mission is to improve the wellbeing of underserved children in Jamaica and the United States.
While living in the Aberdeen area, Dennis was a devout parishioner of Trinity Episcopal Church in Matawan for many years. He had many hobbies which included music and reading mystery novels, but his greatest passion was track and field. In his spare time, he attended and traveled to many track and field meets all over the world with his dear friend Robert, his beloved cousin Gregory, and many other friends. They visited London, Dubai, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and countless other locations over the years. Above all else, Dennis adored his loving and close-knit family. He was a loving son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to many. He will be greatly missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Leopold and Audrey (Mogg) Sherwood, and his brother, Neville Sherwood. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 50 years, Rema (Lindsay) Sherwood, his loving son, Duane Sherwood, his cherished granddaughter, ZaNahja "Z" Sherwood, his dear sister, Yasmine Prendergast and her husband, Philip, his niece, Dr. Natalie Minto, and his treasured cousin, Gregory Ramsey, along with many more cousins, extended family and friends.

In respect of Dennis' wishes, he will be privately cremated, and a memorial service will be held at The Trinity Episcopal Church, on 18 Ryers Lane, Matawan NJ 07747, on October 19th at 11am.
