Dennis Skinner Obituary

Published by Dellcrest Funeral Home on Jul. 11, 2010.
Dennis Lyn Skinner; devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend; passed away on July 11, 2010 at the age of 59 years. He was in the Air Force Reserves as a young man, but retired from civilian service at Kelly AFB after 31 years. For the past 10 years, Dennis enjoyed his second career working at Standard Aero. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Lou Skinner. Dennis is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Patricia, son Lucas Skinner; and daughters Lauren Skinner and Lindsey Stephens and son-in-law Tyson; brother Ronnie Skinner and wife Janice; sisters Jane Mabry and husband Travis and Rhonda Stokes; father-in-law Joe Felux and mother-in-law Maggie Felux; brother-in-laws, Larry Felux and wife Ginger and William Felux and wife Cathy and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dennis was also preceded in death by his lifelong friend, Roy "Randy" Thompson but is survived by Randy's wife Marilyn Thompson, and dozens of loyal friends. Dennis was born in San Antonio on August 15, 1950 and attended Highlands High School. He adored his beloved family and enjoyed life's simple pleasures. This precious, fun-loving man was the life of the party and would make friends wherever he went. He could be found spending his free time at the deer lease, working in his yard or scratching lottery tickets. Dennis shared his passion for hunting with not only his friends, but particularly enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his son, Lucas. He was unconditionally supportive of his "baby girls," Lindsey and Lauren, and was always a constant presence at all of his children's sporting events and school functions. He lived to take care of his wife and they enjoyed planning their gambling and casino trips. The family recently took a vacation to Playa del Carmen, Mexico and will treasure those memories for a lifetime. Dennis touched so many lives and was respected by those that knew him and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 from 3:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. followed by a rosary to be recited at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig at 7:00 P.M. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 15, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or charity of your choice.

Senator Leticia Van de Putte

April 19, 2015

Dear Skinner Family: Please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of your beloved. There are never any right words to express how deeply sad I am for the pain your family is enduring at this difficult time. Although I did not have the honor and pleasure of knowing him, as Chair of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs and Military Installations, I am sincerely thankful for his valiant service in defense of our rights and freedom. His commitment to family, friends, our community, and to serving our great nation leaves a wonderful legacy. May the love and the wonderful memories you shared with him help you when you need it most. He will never be forgotten, and your family will be remembered in my prayers.
