Dennis Steiner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Auble Funeral Home - Orrville on Feb. 16, 2026.
Dennis R. "Denny" Steiner, age 80, of Orrville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Ohio's Hospice LifeCare in Wooster, following a long period of declining health.

Denny was born on December 23, 1945, in Massillon, Ohio, to the late Dale and Katherine (Rich) Steiner. A 1964 graduate of Orrville High School, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, an experience that shaped his lifelong sense of duty and commitment to others.

In 1971, Denny began a distinguished 24-year career with the Orrville Police Department, serving the community he loved until 1995. Twice honored as Officer of the Year, he was respected for his steady leadership, integrity, and quiet strength. Continuing his family's legacy of public service, Denny later followed in the footsteps of his great-grandfather, Mayor Weygandt, and was elected Mayor of Orrville. He faithfully served the city for twelve years, retiring from public office in 2007.

Denny's dedication to his community extended far beyond his professional life. He was an active member of the Orrville Area Boys & Girls Club, where he was named Board Member of the Year in 1986; the same year he was recognized as Orrville Citizen of the Year. He was also a longtime member of the Loyal Order of the Rib and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Orrville, where he served as Quartermaster during his retirement years, forming many lasting friendships.

He found great joy in life's simple pleasures: fishing trips to Canada with close friends, time spent at his cabin in West Virginia, riding in his beloved Pontiac Grand Prix, and sitting in the sunshine with a cold Stroh's beer. Above all, Denny treasured his family. He was a devoted father and grandfather who made certain his loved ones were cared for and supported, and he cherished every moment spent with his daughters and granddaughters.

He is survived by his two daughters, Tammi (Brad) Booth and Denise Steiner, both of Orrville; four grandchildren, Britany (Kyle) Kettler of North Lawrence, Bethany (fiancé Zach Mitchell) Booth of Orrville, Brianna (fiancé Joshua Banas) Efaw of Akron, and Rachel (fiancé David Rex) Brown of Navarre; five siblings, Sally Louise (Gary) Kohler of Dalton, Thomas (Sue) Steiner of Florida, Carolyn Jean (Bisell) McWilliams of Zelienople, Pennsylvania, Kathy Pittman of Woodsfield, and David (Cheryl) Steiner of Dalton; numerous nieces and nephews; and his many friends from the VFW and Rib Club families.

A Celebration of Denny's Life will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 on March 28, 2026, at the Orrville VFW, 430 W. Market St., Orrville.

Prior to the celebration, a private burial will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville, where military rites will be observed.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ohio's Hospice LifeCare at ohioshospice.org/give or to the Hydrocephalus Association at hydroassoc.org/give.
