Flanner Buchanan - Washington Park EastDennis James Tracy, born June 3, 1939, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, devotion, and joy. The beloved son of Frank and Edith Tracy, Dennis was a lifelong resident of Indianapolis whose warmth and gregarious spirit touched many lives.
Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Virginia L. Tracy (Waugh), with whom he shared a life full of love and family. He is also survived by his son, James Dennis Tracy (wife Deborah), and daughters Christina L. Stewart and Colleen Marie Sgroi (husband Tony). Dennis was a cherished brother to Pat Tracy and Jeanne Siefert (husband Caren), and he is preceded in death by his sister-in-law Sheila Tracy.
A proud graduate of Cathedral High School, Dennis served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He then went on to attend Marian University briefly before embarking on his 21-year career with the Indianapolis Fire Department. His years of service reflected his commitment to protecting and uplifting his community. Dennis found joy in the simple pleasures—golf, sports, card games, and notably the thrill of horse racing. His laughter, storytelling, and outgoing personality made every gathering memorable.
Dennis was fortunate to have many grandchildren - nine grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great-granddaughter. His legacy lives on in the values and love he instilled in them.
A gathering of friends and family will be held to honor Denny at 10854 Harness Way on Saturday, August 30 from 12:30pm to 4:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in his memory.
Dennis will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
