On July 10, 1950, in the quaint town of
Talladega, Alabama, a star was born. Denson Bernard Garrett, son to Jessie Ragland and Mary Frances McKenzie Garrett, embraced life with an energetic spirit that forever touched the hearts of those privileged to know him. His laughter, his warmth, and his vibrant personality will resonate in our memories as we remember our dear "Sonny Boy."From a young age, Denson's journey was marked by faith and service. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, uniting with Lilly Hill Baptist Church, where he nurtured a life of spiritual devotion. A proud alumnus of Talladega City Schools, he later served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, attaining the National Defense Service Medal during his time in light weapons infantry, including meaningful service in Germany.Denson was a man of many talents, gifted in craftsmanship as a carpenter and handyman, and his poetic soul flowed through the rhythms of music as a beloved disc jockey. His spirit and enthusiasm lit up every room, effortlessly blending humor and melody. As a passionate sports aficionado, Denson cheered fervently for the Alabama Roll Tide while also making his mark as a respected baseball and softball player. His family and friends will forever cherish the joys of gathering around him, sharing laughter, stories, and the vibrant energy he brought into their lives.Tragically, on October 11, 2025, Denson's journey in this realm concluded following a fateful accident, reuniting him with his beloved parents, Jessie Ragland and Mary Garrett and brothers, William Ragland, Larry Ragland, Stephen Ragland, and Mark A. Garrett, as well as his cherished sisters, Willadean Ragland, Willie Ruth Curry, and Edna Joyce Garrett. Though we grieve profoundly, we also celebrate the beautiful legacy he leaves behind: a rich tapestry woven from love, joy, and countless cherished memories.
Denson leaves behind his devoted wife, Edna Garrett, along with a legacy woven from countless loving memories shared with his four sons, Shaun Stamps, Chris Curry, Denson A. Garrett, and Mark Garrett. In addition, he embraced Tori Flenord and Richard Earl Garrett, his nephews, as his own, nurturing them with love and guidance. Denson's legacy will also be carried on by four brothers, Cleo Garrett, Ronnie (Wanda) Ragland, Michael (Tiffany) Ragland, Jessie Ragland, Jr., and Billy (Ann) Brock; five sisters, Jackie Ragland, Mary Elizabeth Wilson, Clara Graham, Bessie (Bob) Ramsey, and Sharon Ragland; daughter-in-law, Jessie Lomelli; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, friends, and a community all of whom will find strength in the joyful memories of him.
As we gather to honor this remarkable man, let us reflect on the moments shared, the laughter that filled our lives, and the love that will forever bind us.
"Though we mourn, let us celebrate the moments we shared, the joy he brought, and the love that will forever bind us."
