Derek C. MacMillan

Derek C. MacMillan of New Britain, Pennsylvania passed away on Wednesday, October 8th. He was 63 years old. He was born in Summit, New Jersey to the late John and Doreen MacMillan (Urquhart).

Derek is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Kathleen MacMillan (O'Donnell); children, Molly MacMillan, Quinn MacMillan and her fiancé Alec Jackson, and was pre-deceased by a daughter, Colleen MacMillan; He is also survived by two grandsons, Rio and Kai. Also surviving are siblings, Paul MacMillan (Janet), Susan Hanuschak (David), Stephen MacMillan, and Kevin Macmillan (Alison).

Derek led a life of service to his community and beyond through many different avenues. His unwavering spirit to bring people together was a hallmark of how he lived his life. He will be remembered for his easy smile, warm embrace, and loyal friendship.

Derek was a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Doylestown #3, an Irish-Catholic service organization that helps raise funds and provide support to the less fortunate of Bucks County. Derek held many leadership positions in his local division over the years, as well as representing the Order at the County level.

Derek was also very active in the New Britain Borough community for many years, serving on multiple Borough committees dedicated to improving life and offerings to New Britain Borough residents. Derek was instrumental in the development of Orchard Park and the Community Garden off Keeley Avenue, adjacent to Covered Bridge Park.

Additionally, as part of the leadership team of the New Britain Civic Association, Derek was instrumental in bringing numerous events to the greater New Britain Borough community. The annual Duck Derby at Covered Bridge Park was created by Derek twelve years ago and has helped raise money every year to add adaptive play equipment at the park. He also initiated the yearly fishing contest at the Covered Bridge Park for young anglers to learn and participate in a sport he had enjoyed since boyhood.

Above all, he loved his family, 'his girls' as he would say fondly, and was enjoying his new role as Grandpa to Rio and Kai. He also enjoyed golfing with his AOH buddies every weekend, working in the garden, and was looking forward to retirement in Costa Rica.
