Derek Alan Vogelsong, 42, of Camp Hill, passed away September 1, 2024, at his home. Born March 10, 1982, in Carlisle, PA, he was a son of Evelyn (Howland) Vogelsong and Stephen Vogelsong.
Derek was a graduate of Cumberland Valley High School, Class of 2000 and went on to graduate with honors from the University of Pittsburgh in 2004 with a Bachelor's of Science in Business Administration. He worked as a PA State employee for over 18 years in the Labor and Industry Department and in Public Utility Commission. Derek was a member of the Mechanicsburg Sportsman's Association. He was an avid volleyball player and also enjoyed target shooting, fixing and shooting paintball guns, and fixing and playing video arcade games. He enjoyed watching football, especially the Pitt Panthers and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Above all, he loved his family and loved playing with his nieces and nephew.
In addition to his parents, Derek leaves behind his brother, Chad and his wife Aleah (Green) Vogelsong; his 2 nieces, Adelise and Ilaria; his 1 nephew, Tarran; his paternal grandmother, Virginia Vogelsong; many aunts and uncles in PA, VA, TX, and AL; and many cousins in PA, VA, DE, GA, TX, OK, WA, NY, and IL.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Erwin and Rebecca Howland; his paternal grandfather, Lester E. Vogelsong, Sr.; 2 uncles, Walter Howland, John Vogelsong, and David Schriner; 3 aunts, Amelia Howland, Barbara Warden, and Cindy Boyer.
He will be laid to rest at Trindle Spring Cemetery in Mechanicsburg at the convenience of the family. Memorial Celebrations will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Trindle Spring Lutheran Church, 14 State Road, Mechanicsburg PA; or to the Mental Health Association of PA, 922 N. 3rd Street, Harrisburg, PA 17102.
