Derrick Shaquan Higgins was born October 3, 2002 in Florence, South Carolina a son of Shaquana Nykeya Carroway and the late Derrick Higgins. He received his education in the Darlington County School District and was a 2021 graduate of Lamar High School. He continued his studies at Augusta Prep in Augusta, Georgia before transferring to South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. His love of the game of football was a major part of his life and those who knew him and supported him in many ways to achieve his dreams and his goals. "Dee", as he was affectionately called, was the life of the family functions and was a friend to everyone he came in contact with.
On Sunday, March 23, 2025, Derrick Shaquan Higgins made his transition to his Heavenly home. His father, Derrick Higgins, his paternal grandmother, Ann Jett, his paternal great grandparents, Joe and Margaret Johnson, his maternal great grandparents, Clyde and Lannie Mae Davis, his aunt, Sara McFadden, his uncle, Rayne Johnson, and his best friend, Tavaris Dolford all preceded him in death. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving to cherish the loving memory of Derrick Shaquan Higgins include his mother, Shaquana Nykeya Carroway; his grandmother, Alyne Carroway; his siblings, Carmen Higgins, Marissa Higgins, Addison Heinson, Jett Higgins, and Jaxson Higgins; his Godmother, Amanda Washington; his aunts, Hovoyn Neals, Joy Abraham, Erica Jett, and Whitney Jett; his uncles, Ivory Higgins, Torin Carroway, Terence Carroway, and George Plowder; a special friend, Ya'Shira Tyre; a special cousin, Anisha Davis, and a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and very dear friends.
