Derrick was born on April 23, 1970 in Alexandria Bay to the late Maurice "Sonny" R. and Elizabeth "Libby" A. (McNeil) Marcellus. He graduated from Gouverneur Central School in 1988.
Derrick worked as a chef for several restaurants, including Turner's and Mack's Place in Black Lake. He enjoyed cooking for everybody, camping, riding his four-wheeler, watching movies, online gambling and shopping, and to have a drink and entertain himself with the pull tabs at the bar.
Derrick is survived by his sisters, Cathy McDougall and Lisa Fuller-Pratt, his best friend and confidante, Cindy Cardinell, who was holding his hand when he passed, his son, Derrick, and nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He is also survived by his dog, Zeus, and his cat, Tommy.
