Lawrence Patrick Marcellus

Lawrence Patrick Marcellus, age 74, of Painted Post, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, September 14, 2024, after bravely battling a long illness.
He was born on August 25, 1950, in Syracuse, NY.
Larry served as an MP in the 174th Attack Wing of the New York Air National Guard, also known as "The Boys from Syracuse". He was a former employee of Verizon, retiring after 37 years, and he was an active member of his CWA Local. He was a retired member of the Painted Post Fire Department, where he enjoyed the associated civic, social and recreational activities, as well as hanging out with his firemen friends on Friday nights. Positions he held in the department included secretary, vice-president, company lieutenant and captain of the Rescue Squad. Larry especially enjoyed coaching the youth sports in which his son, Matthew, participated, including basketball, soccer, and baseball. Larry was a huge Syracuse University basketball fan and also enjoyed watching football, particularly the New York Giants.
But there was no doubt that family was the number one priority for Larry, who was an incredibly proud, devoted, hands-on father and loving husband.
Intelligent, practical, and a fun prankster, Larry's sense of humor was a defining trait. He will be most remembered for his thoughtful nature and giving spirit. His Christmas stockings, always a surprise, were stuffed with unique and personal gifts and were eagerly awaited by the recipients. He had a special gift for making people smile, laugh, and feel listened to. His absence will be deeply felt by all those whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cynthia (Cindy); son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Julie Marcellus of Maryland; brother, Tom Marcellus, sister, Katie Maron, sisters-in-law Tammy Yackel and Ginger Jurkiewicz, and other extended family. Larry was predeceased by his mother, Mary Marcellus, brother, Richard Marcellus, and sister-in-law Terri Butterfield..
Larry was a truly exceptional person, deeply loved and appreciated by all who knew him. His loving qualities and the impact he had on those around him will be deeply missed.
A private celebration of Larry's life will occur at the family's convenience.
