Devin Lutreal Buckley was born on January 11, 1999, in Chicago, Illinois to the proud parents, Shunda L. Buckley and Melisa M. Wilson. Devin was dedicated to the Lord on May 23, 1999, at Englewood Church of God and later baptized on June 22, 2019, at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church. Devin was a member of Zion Faith Center until his death.
Devin's educational journey began at Oakdale Christian Academy continuing to St. Columbanus, Carter G. Woodson, Simeon Vocational High School and ending at the University of Arizona. Devin was a life-long learner. Below are a few of Devin's most prestigious educational accomplishments:
*On-campus Summer Media Entrepreneurship at University of Illinois. *On-Campus Summer Math Research Academy at Illinois State University. *Chase Bank Summer Certification for External Coding. *Honorary Photographer for Simeon Vocational High School – earning special school privileges *Internship in the TV Studio Department – Rainbow Push Coalition. *Co- founder of VIP Productions Company specializing in Graphic Designs. *2017 Scholarship recipient of "Entrepreneur Award" from Sisters Investing in Souls. *Invited guest on DNAinfo Chicago News radio platform. *Received mentorship and partnership with the Greater Englewood CDC/Englewood Blue Small Business Association.
Devin had a zest for life. His infectious smile, warm hugs and great humor were magnetic. Devin loved to make people laugh. Devin also loved music. You will often find him with his headphones listening to music. At family gatherings, Devin was first in line for a generous serving of his favorite foods; Baked macaroni and cheese, candied sweet potatoes, and chicken wings with mild sauce. Devin treasured quality time with his family and friends.
During his pastimes, Devin enjoyed playing basketball, listening to music and playing video game. Devin was intelligent and a great conversationalist. He loved interesting topics and debates. His inquisitive nature propelled critical thinking.
Devin leaves to cherish his precious memories, his loving mother, Melisa M. Wilson, his devoted father, Shunda L. Buckley (Kathy and Ronald), two grandmothers, Ms. Jacqueline Wilson- Thomas, Mrs. Orangie Buckley, one great-grandmother, Mrs. Gracie L. Camper, two aunts, Mrs. Melanie A. Foster (Lonnell Sr.), Ms. Regina Buckley, three cousins, Justin Penny, Mariah J. Foster, Lonnell J. Foster, Jr., and a host of family and friends.
Devin will be deeply missed.
