Dewayne Tolber Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Evans Funeral Home - Columbus on Apr. 12, 2024.
Dewayne J. Tolber, age 69, passed away at his home on April 7, 2024. He was born on December 11, 1954, in Columbus, Ohio. Dewayne started working at an early age as a paperboy in Bexley. He was well known in the community because his route was so big. He worked for Techniglass and loved his various jobs as a security officer. He retired from Kokosing Construction. He was a graduate of Eastmoor High School and a member of the Teamsters Union.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommylee and Carolyn Barnett; two brothers, Dewight and Eddie; one sister, Darcell, and the love of his life, Joan. He is survived by his two sisters, Denise and Anna; one brother, Ernest; numerous nephews and nieces, especially Rinzee and Khristina; two grandchildren, Christian and Victoria; daughter, Stephanie (Todd), and his dearest friend since childhood, Leonard.
Dewayne loved to watch movies and play cards and bingo. He was also a comic book collector. He treasured his cars and took pride in his black Camaro and Oldsmobile Cutlass. If anyone had car trouble, he would be the first person they would call. He could fix any car and was always willing to help.
Dewayne enjoyed spending time with family and friends. During the warm months, he loved fishing with his family. Whether he was on the fishing bank or in the boat, he was always watching the bobber and reeling in bluegill. He even took a chance one year ice fishing with his family. In his youth, he would hang out at the gas station with his best friend Leonard.
He was a devoted son and loved his grandchildren. Dewayne helped Joan raise her two children, Brian and Stephanie. He was a good dad. He taught Stephanie how to fish and drive, showed up to high school games, helped with homework, and always emphasized the importance of an education...all the things a great dad would do.
Thank you, Dewayne, for always doing your best. We appreciate you and will miss you.
There will be no service because Dewayne did not want one. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Dewayne's name to the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org.
I love you, Dewayne. Give mom a hug for me.
