Dewey Gilford Addison, Sr. age 86, known for his skills as handyman and for selling his famous peanuts, passed away on December 28, 2023, at his home in Lake Butler, FL.
Dewey was born on May 8, 1937, in Raiford, FL, to the late Lee and Erma Johns Addison. In his youth, Dewey dedicated four years to serving his country with the Army and Merchant Marines. His honorable military service shaped him into the determined and resilient man he became. After returning from his military duties, Dewey settled in Lake Butler and embarked on a fulfilling career as a handyman. He took great pride in his work and gained a reputation for being reliable, skilled, and kind-hearted. Fishing was one of his greatest passions; especially going down to the riverbank. With a green thumb, Dewey also had an impressive garden that flourished under his care. However, what truly made Dewey's heart swell with happiness was gathering loved ones together for fish fries or cookouts. No matter the occasion, Dewey ensured everyone felt welcomed and appreciated. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Barbara Ann Opachick, James Addison, Paul Addison, and Hargart Addison.
Dewey is survived by his children: Sheryl (Mike) Bielling, Linda Sumner, Lisa (Daniel) Tollefsrud, Kim Addison, and Dewey Addison, Jr.; his grandchildren: Adrian Hurst, Shanell Harrell, Mathew Cowger, Tony Cowger, Marcia Williams, Brittney Gaskins, Daniel Tollefsrud, Savanna Tollefsrud, and Ayden Addison; his great-grandchildren: Jayden Jenkins, Graci Jenkins, Madilynn Holland, Ryland Gaskins, De'Asia Harris, Lilynna Cowger, Khloe Cowger, and Gabriele Cowger; sister: Pauline Prescott; and a host of extended family and friends.
