Dewey "Glenn" Pickens was Born 9/20/1934 to Kate and Dewey Pickens in Mississippi. He was the baby of 3, with two older sisters, one of whom he talked with most days until her death. He attended school through 12th grade, then he proudly served his country in the Army. He married his wife of 68 years (Ruby Jean) and they moved to Springfield Missouri where they raised 4 rambunctious boys in a 2 bedroom house! They remained in this same house well into their elder years.
Dewey (Glenn) worked doing welding and then made boxes at Southern Missouri Container until he retired. His front porch, back yard, and shed were usually where he was found after his retirement. He enjoyed spending time with his family, being goofy, and tinkering.
He will be remembered as kind and giving, willing to share the shirt off his back at any given moment. He was funny, fun to be around, and could talk to anyone. He enjoyed telling tall tales and had a nickname for everyone; although most men were lovingly called "big guy".
His favorite things included a McDonald's cheeseburger, strawberry shake, a cold beer, and the sunshine. He attended the same church every Sunday for over 50 years. He always said when it's my time to go, let me go; And even though he was ready, we weren't. We know he is resting with the Lord and his loved ones already passed, just sitting in the sunshine waiting for us. His certainly was a life well lived.
Dewey "Glenn" is proceeded in death by: his parents, Kate & Dewey Pickens of MS; Sister Ruth & husband Joe Librach; Sister Loyce & husband Harold Turner; Grandson Shawn "Bubba" Pickens; and Special daughter in law "Lori Bug"; He is survived by: Wife Ruby "Jean" Pickens, four sons: Michael & Susan Pickens, Timmy Pickens, Steve Pickens, & David Pickens; grandchildren Amanda (Pickens) & Jeff Bergman; Kacie (Pickens) & Gunnar Cyr; Courtnee (Pickens) & Landon Hoffman, Jesse Pickens, Stephen Barnes; Great Grandchildren Grayson, Milo, Chloe, Daphne, & Forrest; Nieces & nephew Harolyn, Joy, Shiela, & Randy; and numerous friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be held at Greenlawn North on Sunday Nov 2nd from 5-7 PM The funeral will be at Greenlawn North on Monday Nov 3rd at 11AM with burial to follow
