Diane (Swears) MacGregor, age 89, of Johnstown, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday September 23, 2023, at St. Mary's Healthcare with her loving family by her side.
Diane was born on January 30, 1934, to Lyman and Marie (Rubscha) Swears in Johnstown, NY.
Diane graduated from Johnstown High School and Mildred Elley Business School. Diane served as the town clerk in Caroga Lake for over 30 years where her office started in their home at the base of Royal Mountain.
Diane married her high school sweetheart, Charles MacGregor Jr. on March 21, 1953. Together they lived in Sandiego, CA where he served in the United States Navy. They then returned to Johnstown where they began their family. Later they resided in Canada Lake, a place that was so dear to them. They were happily married for 52 years until his passing on July 28, 2005.
Above all else, Diane loved to spend time with her family. She took great pride in her children's education by serving as PTA president for many years and was on the Board of Education at Wheelerville Union Free School. Diane was also a dedicated Sunday school teacher and made weekly floral arrangements for the alter at Northbush United Methodist Church. Her lifelong hobbies included quilting, sewing, & knitting. Every family member will always cherish their handmade Christmas stockings. Later in life she enjoyed reading and the challenge of a good word search.
Diane is survived by her three beloved children Carol (Robert) Duffek, Carl (Margaret) MacGregor, and Cathleen (Dennis) Landrio. Diane and Charlie are now reunited with their first son Charles III, who like his father proudly served in the United States Navy. His unexpected passing was in 1987. Diane was known for her creative signature on cards, "Diane, Charlie and the 4 C's."
In addition, Diane is survived by her beloved grandchildren, Dianna Duffek and Bethany Dence- Duffek, Tina Olyer (Aaron), Racheal Salvione (Eric), Jamie (Tim) Blackford, Carrie MacGregor (Shawn), Nicole MacGregor, Maria (Kyle) Loux, Danielle (Zach) DeMaria, Michael (Amber) Landrio, and Kyle (Monica) Landrio. She was honored to hold the title of great grandma to Macey and Allie Salvione, Marcus & Maximus Blackford, Collin Davis, and Gabriel and Bennett Loux. Diane is also survived by her sister-in law, Deanie (Nicholas Sr.) Cannizzo and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, husband, and son, Diane was predeceased by her sister Mary-Lou (Gus) Sweeney and her sister- in law Doris (Richard) Putman.
A special thanks to Dr. Emily Etzkorn and all the staff at St. Mary's Healthcare for their exceptional compassion and care.
Visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service on Sunday, October 1, 2023, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at A.G. Cole Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM.
