Sean Michael MacGregor was born on October 8th, 1966 in Hawaii. Though he didn't look it, with his fair skin and red hair, Sean was an island boy who loved surfing and sashimi, plate lunches, and spending the afternoon at the beach. Sean's life significantly changed when he was 11 years old; his mother and Sean joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He recounted many times that he read The Book of Mormon and had a strong conviction it was true. Since then, Sean tried to be a true disciple of Jesus Christ in how he lived.
While Sean was in high school, his family lived in a rural area on the Big Island. There, Sean would learn the value of hard work. He would recount that he did his homework by kerosene lantern, and he was not joking. He would have to turn on the generator to watch a small, 6-inch, black-and-white TV. This work ethic would last his entire life, as he liked doing yard work and DIY projects around the house. Sean wasn't afraid to research how to do things and try new skills. It made him feel good to be as self-sufficient as possible.
At 19, Sean was called on a mission to Santiago, Chile. As a missionary, being obedient to the rules was very important to him; he later would tell his sons when they embarked on their own missions to have no regrets by being obedient as he had. He was very excited to have his son Grant serve in the same mission 30 years later. His son Keegan is currently serving in that area as well.
Sean attended Brigham Young University and earned a degree in Information Management. He then took a position in Topeka, Kansas, to work as a software developer. While living there, Sean met and married his wife Lori. His coworker lived in Lori's ward and suggested that he ask the new girl out. Sean and Lori were married on Valentine's Day in 1995, a date Sean strategically picked so that he would not have to remember an anniversary date, but the joke was on him as everything is more expensive around that holiday. They have been married for 30 wonderful years.
Sean and Lori moved to Oregon in 1997 and started their family shortly thereafter. They had four boys; Sean always said that he didn't have the recipe for girls. He loved being a dad, playing and working with his children. Sean's greatest joy was seeing them progress. As they became older, he enjoyed being with them even more as they understood his sense of humor and could go on adventures. Baseball and amusement parks were among his favorites, as well as travelling to new places. His boys persuaded him to try both paragliding and skydiving.
Sean loved to tease people to put them at ease, but he did not like to be put in the limelight himself. He would rather be behind the camera, taking the pictures. Sean enjoyed working with the young men in scouting and attended many camps over the years. He also enjoyed teaching in Primary and wanted to be called as the nursery leader. Sean was humbled to be the first bishop of the Glencoe Ward, and although he was nervous he fulfilled the calling to the best of his ability. Sean always felt that the easiest way to live was to live the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Sean passed on January 7th; he will be forever fondly remembered by his family and friends. He leaves behind his wife, Lori, their 4 sons: Ian (Samantha), Malcolm "Grant", Aiden, and Keegan. He also leaves behind one grandchild, Simon, his parents Kathy and William Vogt, and siblings Suzie Kalama (Kaulana), David Vogt, Jennifer McClellan (Rico), and Daniel Vogt. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ralph and Katheryn Thibodeau, and his Auntie Karen Lardizabal.
