Diane Margaret "Dee" Schmidt, 75, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at Tufts Medical Center, with her family by her side, after a period of declining health.
Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Harold Skillman and the late Antoinette (Gentile) Skillman. Diane grew up in the North End, Cambridge, and Belmont, later living in East Boston before eventually settling in Lowell with her family.
Family was the center of Dee's life. She found her greatest joy in spending time with her loved ones and always kept them close in her heart. A woman of deep faith, Diane prayed every night and drew comfort and strength from her religious devotion. She enjoyed quiet moments watching television and listening to holy music.
Over the years, Diane worked as a housekeeper at the Sheraton in Harvard Square, Lowell General Hospital, and as a school and bus monitor in East Boston. She was known for her strong work ethic and kindness toward those around her.
Dee leaves her daughter, Christine Patricia Schmidt; her granddaughter, Cassandra Lee Schmidt of Lowell; and her great-grandson, Damian Cole Schmidt. She is also survived by her siblings, Peter Skillman and Donna Blanchard; her sister-in-law, Grayce Skillman of Lowell; many nieces and nephews, including Micheala Herring of Lowell, Brad Skillman of Lowell, Craig Skillman of Lowell, who was also her godson, Brandon Skillman of Dracut, and Kimberly Keegan of Cohoes, NY; and her dear friend, Celia Plagenza. She was predeceased by several siblings.
Dee will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who lived a life centered around faith, family, and love.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no services. Arrangements by McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell www.McDonoughFuneralHome.com
