Teresa (Teixeira) Almeida, 79, a longtime Lowell resident, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 25th.
She was born on September 13, 1945 in Ribeira Grande, São Miguel, Azores, Portugal, and was a daughter of the late Francisco Teixeira and the late Gloriana (Grilo) Teixeira. She was educated in São Miguel and came to the United States in 1982 settling first in Cambridge and eventually Lowell, where she made her home since 2005.
She devoted many years to her work as a seamstress, a craft that brought her both joy and purpose. Sewing was not only her livelihood but her passion, and she found great comfort in it. With skillful hands and a generous heart, she shared her gift with family and countless friends.
She was the beloved wife of Edmundo Almeida for nearly 60 years, and is survived by her 4 sons; Ricardo and his wife, Leigh Anne of Andover, Gualter and his wife, Lisa, of Lowell, Paul and his wife, Maggie, of Wilmington, Helio and his wife, Popi, of Grafton, her 9 grandchildren; Andrew, Mikayla, Sofia, Alexander, Christiano, Colin, Thalia, Chloe, Maximos, her sisters; Fatima, Oriana, Maria de Deus, and many nieces, nephews, godchildren and in laws.
Additionally, she was predeceased by her sisters, Cesaltina, Estrela, and Natalia.
Family and friends are welcome to attend her calling hours on Friday, August 29, 2025, from 4-8 p.m. at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816.
On Saturday morning her funeral will begin at the funeral home at 9 a.m. followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 144 East Merrimack Street, Lowell, MA, followed by procession for burial at Lowell Cemetery.
