Resident of Alameda
Edgar Barrantes passed away peacefully with his children and grandchildren at his side.
Edgar grew up in Cajamarca, Peru. As a young adult, he moved to Lima, Peru where he met and married his future wife Yolanda. They migrated to California in 1956 and fulfilled their dream of raising a family. Edgar worked for National Cash Register (NCR) in Accounting/Inventory Management for 25 years. He was well- respected for his strong work ethic and dedication to the company. "Eddie", as he was lovingly called, was a caring friend you could easily talk to and count on.
Edgar and Yolanda made many wonderful friends throughout their married life and they considered them family. Spending time with family was one of their greatest joys. They loved sharing a meal, a glass of wine (or pisco sour), and a little something sweet (algo dulcecito) with family/friends. Several times they were able to travel back to Peru visiting their large, loving Peruvian and Italian families there, and instilling a deep sense of family and cultural connection in their children and grandchildren. Throughout the years, they also enjoyed trips to Spain, Germany, Mexico, Hawaii, and various places throughout California and the US. Edgar especially loved the outdoors and took his family on many hiking trips to Yosemite. On those rigorous hikes, he always encouraged his children to keep moving forward and never give up. However, he also included a helping hand when needed. Edgar truly adored his grandchildren and often attended their various celebrations, sporting events, and recitals. He was a strong, consistent, kind and loving presence in their lives.
Edgar was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years Yolanda and is survived by his children Julie Apel(Michael),
Jackie Myovich(John) and Flavio Barrantes(Elizabeth); and grandchildren Christina, Erika, and Mark Apel, Daniela (Chase) and Andrea (Nick) Myovich, and Luisa and Luca Barrantes. He also leaves behind his dear brother Jorge and sisters Socorro and Cecilia; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Basilica, 1109 Chestnut St., Alameda on Tuesday, Dec. 12th at 10:30am. Interment following at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette, CA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School or St. Joseph Elementary School.

Jack and I went to Queen of Heaven Cemetery about a week ago to put Christmas flowers on the graves of both our parents, as well as our son, and Jack´s sister who died this year. We walked over to Yolanda´s grave to "visit" and say a prayer, and were surprised and sad to see Edgar´s name on the headstone. It must have been shortly after he passed away. We are so very sorry for your loss.

Your Dad and Mom were such wonderful people, and such great friends to my parents that they were considered extended family. Many years of friendship, many years of memories.

We know how close you all were to your parents, and how much they meant to you. We hope that your father went peacefully and didn´t suffer. Although we know that there will be a time when our parents are no longer with us, that knowledge doesn´t make the loss any less painful. Sending our love and prayers to all of you.

Jack & I went to Queen of Heaven Cemetary about a week ago to put Christmas flowers on the graves of both our parents, and our son, as well as Jack's sister. We stopped at Yolanda's grave to say a prayer, and were surprised and sad to see that Edgar's name was on the gravestone, and the grave was newly dug.

Your Dad and Mom were such wonderful people, and such good friends to my parents they were like part of our extended family. So many years of friendship shared between them.

We are so very sorry for your loss. We know how close all of you were to your parents, and how much they meant to you. Sending our love and prayers to you all.

I had the pleasure of working with Ed at NCR. We had similar positions. I was in San Francisco and Ed was in Oakland except for a while that we worked side by side in San Francisco.
Ed was a great human being, hard worker, great family man and my good friend.
My condolences to his family.
RIP, dear friend.

I met Ed when I started at NCR in 1966 and he attended my wedding with his sweet Yolanda in 1968. We also attended his awesome daughter's wedding and he attended my daughter's wedding with Yolanda in 2005. We've been close friends ever since attending dinners at the Italian Clubs and we last chatted on my birthday in September. He never missed wishing me a birthday wish and he and Yolanda will remain in my heart forever. God Bless you Eddie, RIP old friend.
