Dinesh Parikh Obituary

Dinesh Parikh was a man in full. He lived a life of jalsa ("joy", "celebration", "gathering of loved ones") until late afternoon July 25, 2022, when he passed at the age of 77. He went in peace in the arms of his wife, son, daughter, daughter-in-law and future son-in-law.
He was born in a village in India and the first of his family to immigrate to the United States. He married Vanadevi and had two children, Simul and Sheena. He was a programmer by occupation, but first and foremost he was Vanadevi's husband and Simul and Sheena's dad. This defined him more than any job ever would and one of the many gifts he left us - knowing what is truly important in life.
Dinesh had a smile and a story for everyone. He helped in every way he could, particularly to young Indian immigrants starting off in this country, trying to build a life, like he did in the early 70s. He was frustratingly ethical and moral. He didn't take shortcuts. He didn't understand unkindness, and even when he was in the midst of negativity, he was the peacemaker, the one to make a joke to break the silence. He was the one to hug you when words just wouldn't do. He was the son that brought honor to his parents. He was the husband that every woman dreams of (look at that hair and those eyes!).
Vanadevi was the envy of the community - his entire marriage, he aimed to make her comfortable and have a life of ease. Even with painful arthritis in his hip, he would drop her off at the front door, park the car, and then meet her in the front. Simul and Sheena's dad was the one who other kids knew would give them the goodies that their own parents wouldn't and sometimes that meant a McDonald's run in the middle of a wedding ceremony. Simul, his firstborn, was his destiny and he sacrificed so his son could achieve. But, it is well known his daughter, Sheena, was his favorite and best friend, their bond forever and unbroken. If every child had parents like him, the world would be a better place. He found a kindred spirit in his daughter-in-law, Cassandra, and they became fast friends. Dinesh wanted her to take care of his son and keep him straight, but when he became unwell, she took care of the only father she ever knew. Sheena's boyfriend Amiel was his "local son" and the only man whose love of Sheena approached his own. His grandchildren brought him delight and many say Calisi and Cailo were his finest work.
He departs this world and though we are shattered, we smile knowing that life is jalsa and he was the master of ceremonies for the joy in our lives. Dear Dinesh. May you rest in peace and pleasure.
Funeral will be at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home at 2600 Crooks Rd., Troy, MI (between Maple and BIg Beaver), 248-362-2500 on Saturday July 30 at 8.30AM sharp. Dinesh was never late, so you shouldn't be either.
The funeral service will be available via livestream. To access the livestream select the Tribute Wall (see tab above), the link will be available 10 minutes prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to a worthy cause. If it is meaningful to you, it would have been meaningful to him.
