Dixie Symantha Barley, 89, of Maple Fork went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 18, 2024. Born December 14, 1934, in Amigo, WV, she was the daughter of Lee Kyle Allen and Mabel Dean Allen Blake. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Vernon Barley; daughter Karen Lynn Metrick; son-in-law Richard Lovell; brothers Lee Kyle Allen and Ken Blake; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob Tyree, Ray Barley (Karen), Robert Barley (Anna), Paul Barley and Bill Appleton. She was also preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Reverend Ernest and Ethel Barley.
Those left to cherish her memory are her devoted daughters Kathy Lovell, Libby (Johnny) Dotson and Patricia Barley, all of Maple Fork; grandchildren Amy (Clyde) O’Neal, Carrie Cipriano, Jennifer Cipriano, JR Dotson, Michael (Alyson) Dotson, Heather (Jeff) Neal, Symantha (Jon) Calfee, Sue (Frank) Sauchuck, and David Marcus; 17 great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and another on the way. Also surviving is a brother Andy (Rickey) Allen; sister Elizabeth “Libby” Appleton; brothers and sisters-in-law Ginny Blake, Gayle Allen, Elizabeth Tyree, Ruth (Carlos) Lilly, Judy Barley, Mary Barley, Shirley (John) Fox as well as many adoring nieces and nephews.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was a caring homemaker and a dedicated prayer warrior for her family. Dixie was a friend to all who knew her and was the epitome of class and generosity. She truly leaves a legacy of love, compassion and faith.
A faithful member of Maple Fork Baptist Church, she was an accomplished seamstress and talented event planner and decorator. She most treasured time spent with family at holiday gatherings, outings at the family farm and annual beach vacations to Surf City, NC.
A Celebration of Life will be Friday, November 22, 2024, at 6:30 pm at the Maple Fork Baptist Church – Robert Barley Youth Center with Pastor Jim Bowyer officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 pm until service time at the church youth center. Interment will be held at 11 am, Saturday, November 23, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Prosperity, WV.
JR Dotson, Mike Dotson, Jeff Neal, Frank Sauchuck, Clyde O’Neal, Bobby Barley and Matt Barley will serve as pallbearers.
Donations may be made to the Hospice of Southern WV or Gideons International (Beckley) in honor of Dixie.
