Dixie Jo Ross Cafferty, 73, died peacefully Tuesday, March 4, at her residence surrounded by her family following a long period of declining health. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday March 15 beginning at 3 pm at Cold Springs Global Methodist Church, 2550 Cold Springs Rd, Concord, with the Reverend Dr. Cliff Wall officiating the service. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 1 pm on Saturday, March 15. At all other times the family will be at her home.
Dixie was born in Cynthina, KY. She was the daughter of the late Jack D Ross and Virginia D Ross. In addition to her parents, Dixie was proceeded in death by her son Douglas Ross Cafferty.
A 1969 graduate of Harrison County High school in Cynthina KY. Dixie worked the majority of her life caring for children in her home. She also was a brownie girl scout leader in KY, and a soccer coach. After retiring from childcare Dixie loved spending time with her grandchildren and most recently her first great grandchild and was anticipating her second great grandchild in September.
Dixie is survived by her husband John D Cafferty of 55 years. Daughter Sandra C Hurlocker (Tim). Daughter Jennifer J Cafferty. Brother David D Ross (Debbie). Grandchildren, Kelby Hurlocker, Madelyn McFaddin (Daniel), Garrett Hurlocker (Katelyn), Kenzie Bickerstaff, Jack Bickerstaff, Great grandchild Liam McFaddin, as well as many nieces and nephews, and her loving dog Sydney.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Atrium Health Cabarrus for the extraordinary care given to her over the past 3 months.
In lieu of flowers, the family would request that memorials be made to Cold Spring Global Methodist church building fund.
