Mrs. Dixie Fornes McLawhorn, 69, went to be with her Lord and Savior and loved ones on Saturday, March 15, 2025.
A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025 at 1 pm at The Second Baptist Church of Washington. The family will visit with friends prior to the service beginning at 12.
Dixie was born on October 21, 1955 to the late Guy Cletus Fornes and Lena Frances Fornes. She obtained her GED in 1971 and went on later to receive an Associates Degree in Ornamental Horticulture in 1981.
She worked at Sunshine Garden Center for 15 years and had a passion for all things that grew from the soil and loved her garden. She later worked at the Free Will Baptist Press in Ayden, writing the newsletter, later retiring in 2015.
She was a devout servant of the Lord and was very active in her church, The Second Baptist Church of Washington. She enjoyed spending time in the Appalachian Mountains and was deeply obsessed with untamed beauty. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother.
Dixie was an extremely devoted wife and loved spending time with her family and friends and made them the most important thing in her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie Bruce McLawhorn, Sr.; son, Lonnie Bruce McLawhorn, Jr.; brothers, Billy Ray Fornes and Heber Fornes and a sister, Mary Holmquist.
She is survived by her: grandson, Adam Bruce McLawhorn and wife, Jenna and great-grandson, Stetson McLawhorn; and
sister, Louise Carawan and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution in her name to The Second Baptist Church in Washington.
