JOHNSON, Mr. Dmitri - Age 49, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023, at his residence. Family hour 10:00 AM Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Vernon Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 5802 Dupont St., with funeral service commencing at 11:00 AM, Pastor Douglas Banks, Host Pastor, Rev. Thelisa Cayton, officiating., Rev. Cedric Nickson, Eulogist. Interment Sunset Hills Cemetery, G-4413 Flushing Rd. Friends and pallbearers will assemble at the Church 10:00 AM Saturday. Mr. Johnson will lie in state in the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home, 906 W. Flint Park Blvd. and may be viewed from 12:00 PM-6:00 PM Friday. Masonic Service will be held at 5:30 PM Friday December 22, 2023 at Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home. Dmitri T. Johnson was born on August 1, 1974, the youngest of 6 children of Louis W. and Estella M. Johnson in
Flint, Michigan. He was educated in the Flint public school system and graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1992. He attended The University of Michigan, studied Psychology, and graduated in 2001. Dmitri began a career in retail management in 1996 and served in a variety of positions in the retail industry. He transitioned to the telecommunications industry, where he served as a Project Manager. Dmitri is the proud father of one son, United States Marine LCPL Austin C. Johnson. Dmitri loved to sit around the table and play cards and dominos with friends and family. He held a great love for his family, he was honored to be in the presence of every single member to get to know them and set up a lasting harmonious relationship with each member of the family. Dmitri took pride in being uncle/big brother to his eldest nephews and nieces (Ju'Juan & Jameel) (Santoya, Jackee', Arnell & Keyonna). Dmitri is a member of Vernon Chapel AME Church in
Flint, Michigan. He has served in various roles, such as, President of the Senior Usher Board, Secretary for Men Of Vernon Elite, State Coordinator and Episcopal District Vice President for the Young Adult Network, Security in Ministry, as well as serving on the Steward Board of Alexander AME Church in
Evansville, Indiana. Dmitri was introduced to Prince Hall Masonry at a very early age, as his parents were very active in the Masonic organization. He was a member of the Oman Temple Shrine Youth Club, serving as President. He was Second Lieutenant of the Shrine Youth Drill Team Competition National Champions at the National Shrine Convention in
New Orleans, Louisiana in 1985, He was named Drill Team Captain in 1987 and led the team until 1991. He was a founding member of St. Mark Chapter No. 2, Order of the Eyes, the youth department of The Most Worshipful Prince Hail Grand Lodge of Michigan, where he was the Secretary. On November 21, 1992, Dmitri was raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason in John W. Stevenson Lodge No. 56,
Flint, Michigan. He served as Worshipful Master of John W in 1998. He has also served in the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Michigan on the Scholarship Committee, Youth Committee, and the Lecturer's Department. Dmitri served as Worthy Patron of Royal Star Chapter No. 27, OES-PHA in 1995 and 1996. He currently serves as Trustee of John W. Stevenson Lodge No. 56, Captain of the Host of Flint Chapter No. 17, HRAM-PHA and serves as an advisor to the Knights of Pythagoras. And was a member of Omega Council Number 2 Royal and Select Masters and Saginaw Valley Consistory Number 71 Scottish Rite Masons. In December of 2022, he was elected and installed as the 64" Illustrious Potentate of Oman Temple No.72 of the Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine of North and South America and its Jurisdictions, Inc, Joining his father as the first father and son Potentates of Oman Temple. His legacy of love will be carried on by his beloved son Austin C. Johnson, His brothers Marcus Johnson of Nashville TN and Daryl Johnson, sisters Dr. Angela Williams of Nashville TN and Arnell Jones of Pine Bluff AR, fiancé LaTisha Tolbert and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and special friends. Dmitri was preceded in death by his beloved mother Rev. Estella Johnson; brothers, Darnell and Derek Johnson. The family wishes to give special thanks to Vernon Chapel AME Church family, John W. Stevenson Lodge and the Prince Hall Grand Lodge. Thanks to everyone so much for joining our family in celebrating Dmitri's life today. Thank you for your kind expressions of sympathy, the love you have shown has given us great comfort during this difficult time. It is deeply appreciated and will forever be remembered.
