Sister Doina Veliciu was born on May 19, 1963, in the village of Focuri, Ia i County, to Gheorghe and Maria Grecu. She was the tenth of twelve children: Vasile, Constantin, Gheorghe, Mihai and Mihaela (twins, died in infancy), Ion, Maria, Mihaela (died at 1 year), Dumitru, Doina, Stefan, and Mihai. From a young age, her father had a profound influence on her life. He encouraged her to read the Bible and helped her grow in her faith. He guided her to live a life devoted to God, with love, integrity, and reverence in all she did. In 1981, she moved to Arad, where she lived with two of her brothers and began attending Sega Baptist Church. Soon after, she entered into covenant with the Lord through baptism, committing to remain faithful to Him until the end. During this time, through a mutual friend, she met Teodor Veliciu (Doru). Together, they started a new life in America, both leaving behind their families in search of a better future. They were married in Chicago on April 28, 1991. Together they attended Bethany Church and later continued their fellowship at Elim Church. The Lord blessed them with seven children: Daniel, Joshua, Jacob, Miriam, Ligia, Sarah, and Ana Maria. Their life together was filled with love, joy, and God's blessings. In September 2008, after nearly four years of illness, the Lord called Doru home. His passing brought deep sorrow and hardship, but Sister Doina continued forward with courage, finding strength in God and in caring for her family. From then on, Sister Doina carried the heavy responsibility of being both mother and father to her seven children. She found strength and comfort in God and in the brothers and sisters in Christ who surrounded her with love. She was a strong woman, a faithful mother, and she devoted herself to raising her children in the fear of the Lord. In February 2022, she was diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer. Even through her illness, she continued to attend church, work, and take care of her children as best as her body allowed. As the disease spread, her health declined. Even in moments of deep pain and questioning why she had to endure such suffering, she continued to hold firmly to her faith. Her desire was always to live for her children and continue caring for them, but above her own wishes, she placed the will of God. She honored His plan, knowing that what He ordained would come to pass. She found comfort in the fellowship of her sisters in Christ who visited her often, bringing encouragement and prayer. On the morning of August 8th, surrounded by the love and care of her children, Sister Doina peacefully entered into eternal rest. She left behind her pain and suffering and at last found peace in heaven. She is mourned by her children:
Daniel Joshua, with his wife Stephanie and their sons Matteo and Gabriel Jacob Miriam Ligia, with her fiancé Benjamin Zielke Sarah, with her husband Hernen Erraez and their newborn son Lucas Ana Maria She is also mourned by her older sister, Maria Albu, and her younger brother, Mihai Grecu, both of whom live in Romania.
Sister Doina was an example to many, a woman who carried the burdens of life with dignity, and who, even in suffering, found the strength to encourage others. She worked tirelessly for her children and, beyond that, gave her love and encouragement to all around her. Her life was a living testimony of faith, perseverance, and unwavering trust in God.
