Doland Pichon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Audubon Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Slidell on Feb. 7, 2026.
Doland Gerard Pichon, age 54, passed away on February 5, 2026, in Slidell, Louisiana. A man of immense character, quiet strength, and a vibrant spirit, Doland leaves behind a legacy of decorated service to his country and an unwavering devotion to his family. Born on April 5, 1971, to Geraldine and Alvin Pichon Sr., Doland's life was defined by duty. Having served with distinction during Operation Desert Storm. His commitment to service continued throughout his life, spanning over 20 years with the Louisiana Army National Guard, where he rose through the ranks to retire as a Major. In addition to his military career, Doland was a dedicated employee of the U.S. Postal Service for over two decades. His leadership and discipline were matched only by his kindness toward his colleagues and fellow soldiers.

While his professional achievements were many, Doland's true joy was found at home. He was the beloved husband of Nicole Castenell for over 23 years and a devoted father to their three children, Madison, Eli, and Jacob. Though Doland was a quiet man by nature, he was the "life of the party" among those he loved. He lived with a generous heart, always ensuring that everyone around him was taken care of and protected. Doland was a "foodie" who loved to cook and bake, as it filled his heart and those he loved with joy. He was a family man in the truest sense; he loved his wife and children deeply and would have done anything in the world for them.

Doland's memory will be cherished by his loving wife and their three beautiful children. He is also survived by his devoted parents, Geraldine and Alvin Pichon Sr. He leaves behind a close-knit group of siblings who were his foundation: his brother and closest confidant, Alvin Hillary Pichon Jr. (Mechelle), with whom he shared a "twin-like" bond and a connection that defied description; his loving sister, Danielle Pichon; and his younger siblings, the twins Joan and Jeremy Pichon (Rebekah). His legacy lives on through his family, nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and friends, and many soldiers and colleagues he mentored throughout his career.

Services will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Audubon Funeral Home located at 61101 US-11, Slidell, LA 70458. A public viewing will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service with military honors in the chapel beginning at 11:00 AM. Following the service, repast be held at the same location and will conclude at 2:30 PM. Memories and condolence may be expressed at www.AudubonFuneralHome.com

To: Ms Nicole (Wife), The Family and Friends of MAJ Doland G. Pichon. MAJ Pichon was a positive impact with his over 20 years of service in the Louisiana National Guard. My wife (Jan) and I, want to wish our sincere sympathies and heartfelt condolences for the passing of Doland. He will be dearly missed, but never, never forgotten. You should be very proud of his 20 years of service in the Louisiana National Guard which he honorably served as a great professional, dedicated and Loyal Soldier. A memorial Honor and a deserving tribute to a great Soldier.
It is the "Soldier"
In Memorial Honor to MAJ Doland G. Pichon
Louisiana National Guard
It´s the Soldier,
not the pastor/preacher, who has given us freedom of religion and worship.
It´s the Soldier,
not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.
It´s the Soldier,
not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.
It´s the Soldier,
not the demonstration organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble and demonstrate.
It´s the Soldier,
not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It´s the Soldier,
not the politician, who has given us the right to vote, ensures our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
It´s the Soldier, who salutes the Flag, who serves beneath the Flag and whose coffin is draped by the Flag, who gives the protester the right to burn the flag.
The American Soldier does not Train, serve and fight because he hates who is in front of him; he Trains, serves and fights because he loves who is behind him.
The World, the USA, Fort Smith and South Louisiana Communities are better places today, because of Doand´s dedicated and loyal service to our nation, State and community.

ETERNAL REST GRANT HIM O LORD AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON HIM.
